You guys are missing a huge part of the equation. You can't decide in 2021 to cut him as of 2023 but keep him on the team for those two years. The money doesn't stop guaranteeing until you cut him. So the only way to not pay the 2023 salary and bonuses is to cut him before the 3rd league day of 2021 and if you do that he is a FA immediately. If you cut him in 2023 the dead money is the $4M listed on spotrac, the 2023 and 2024 salary and bonuses and any unallocated roster bonus from previous year because it is normally split over 5 years. The only thing the $4M accounts for is the unallocated portion of the SB because it is the only thing already guaranteed.
