Such a Great episode. Great scene.

I loved how they explored lex’s psyche

an underrated part of that was Lex’s interpretation of the cave mythology. It’s a great foreshadowing of his future with Clark

I love the character.

Don't love the actor.

I really liked the story this season told though, minus a few hiccups...like how would kryptonians know what blue kryptonite does lol

They seem to understand that the yellow sun SHOULD be giving them powers. And it has been established throughout the show that Earth was well known to the Kryptonians (they have even had long term diplomatic relations with Mars). Just because Clark didn’t know about all the different Kryptonites from the get go doesn’t mean that it wasn’t in the common knowledge base of Krypton.

But krytponite only exists AFTER krypton explodes.

so any living member on krypton should have no idea about it.

Is that mentioned in the show? It may be canon in the books (I do t read the comics, so I honestly don’t know), but it isn’t necessarily true on the show.

Kryptonite
It says it came from Krypton, but it doesn’t say anything about it only gaining its properties after the destruction of Krypton.

My theory is that since Kryptonians had a presence in the Sol system for presumably hundreds of years (at least - likely MUCH longer than that), then they have a vast knowledge about it. I don’t find it too hard to believe that at some point, they brought a piece of Kryptonite to mars or Earth and discovered its properties while under the effects of Sol.

no that’s the thing.

Kryptonite is krypton.

it only existed after the planet blew up.

so when they came here while the planet existed, they could not have set up traps based on kryptonite. They wouldn’t had to have been on earth for the meteor shower, but they set the stones apart at least a few hundred years prior.

No.

Kryptonite is a PIECE of Krypton. A PIECE of Krypton could exist without Krypton blowing up.

the point was that the explosion is what radiates it.

Valid theory. At least as valid as my theory. But I don’t see where it is established that that is where it gets its special properties from.

I always assumed that it reacts to the radiation given off by a yellow star. This is why it is completely inert in the Kryptonian home system which has a red star. The fact that the yellow star is what gives Kryptonians their power feeds into that theory.

wouldnt that have meant all of krypton would’ve hurt Clark when he went back to krypton to save Kara since he still had some yellow sun stored up? Or are you saying the yellow sun itself irradiates the the planet, but then the crystals the kryptonians have should kill them while on earth.

No. The Kryptonian Star is a red star. Therefore the material is inert. It doesnt gain it’s “magical” properties until it reacts with the radiation from a yellow star (such as Sol)

Good point about him having some residual “yellow star radiation” in his system as he goes back to Krypton. My guess on that is that it would only be trace amounts. At least in relation to what would be needed to activate the properties.

they know it because they know the yellow sun, Not even necessarily earth’s, would allow them to have powers.

I’m sure they had powers on mars and any other planet they went to with a yellow sun.

jor el already knew because he sent Clark to earth to have those powers.

I think it’s also mentioned multiple times that meteor rocks didn’t show up until 1989 (the first meteor shower, after krypton exploded).

secondly, how do you feel about Lois and when she was Introduced.

at first I thought it was too early. But I also didn’t realize Pete was Actually going to be gone at that point. I guess they needed someone to fill that role.

it was also fun to watch everyone speculate for the skinwalkers episode that kyla was going to be Lois (after the next week on smallville preview after watching the previous weeks episode)

Again, just because Kryptonite didn’t exist “naturally” on Earth until ‘89 Doesn’t mean that Kryptonians were ignorant about its properties before then. Krypton had been a space faring world for centuries by the time it blew up. I think it is more likely that they discovered its properties when in the vicinity of a yellow star than assuming they hadn’t. Again, they had a long history in the Sol System with their political relationship with Martians and their visitations on Earth.

You are assuming that Kryptonite didn’t exist until Krypton exploded. But Kryptonite is just a piece of Krypton by my theory. It is completely inert until exposed to the radiation of a yellow star (Sol, for example). Since the Kryptonian system has a red star, Kryptonite does not hurt Kryptonians when not near a yellow star.

As for Erica Durance, I was never a fan. But I get that they wanted a contrast from the petite young looking Kristin Kreuk, so they went with the Amazonian to play Lois. That makes sense from a casting POV. Introducing her so early was a bit disappointing. And having her actually attending Smallville High? Ridiculous.

one question I have that maybe you have a theory for...

Why didn’t Lex know who Jason was? They basically grew up together, but I never got the sense that they knew each other.
