I have only read the first of that series.

and I have been reading Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid series on the side.

I need to do more Sandman Slim. I like Kadrey.

A lot more cussing and such in Sandman. And it's not so much magic as it is R rated Supernatural.

that's what I got from it too. I may look into the second book soon. I know Ballistic Kiss is coming out soon...not sure what book that is in the series. It's not at 16 like Dresden Files though.

Finished the Red Rising trilogy. It was good solid stuff. Definitely got away from The Hunger Games ripoff vibe I was getting. At least enough that it didn't bother me anymore.

Just started the fourth one, Iron Gold. Having a hard time with that one so far.

I have Iron Gold and Dark Age sitting on my shelf...haven't been motivated to start them yet.

but yea, it definitely gets away from Hunger Games with the class ratings and stuff...I loved it.

Pierce Brown is a crazy man. He's good stuff.

I guess it's official.

Doors of Stone - August 20

I'm trying to decide if I care at this point.

I'll certainly pick it up through Audible, but likely won't get to it until 2021. Currently going back through the Stormlight Archive books (started WoR this week) leading up to book 4 coming out in November, then go back with the first two in the Kingkiller Chronicles to catch up on that storyline before Doors of Stone.

I guess I could reverse that a little and start with the Kingkiller now leading up to August's release and then pick back up with WoR and get to the Rhythm of War in the spring, but Rothfuss has strung this out and Sanderson is a consistent machine. I've been excited for RoW and have been disappointed with the wait for Doors of Stone, so I don't know what to do.

I have a hard time reading things for the second time. I'll probably try to find a summary and half-ass it through RoW.

I'll probably buy Doors of Stone. He hasn't pissed me off to the point that GRRM has. Yet. And it's the last book. So...

I listen to them on Audible and have an hour commute both ways, plus mowing that help push through them. Sanderson has become my favorite author, so it's easy listening, but trying to pick up on all of the small tie-ins with his world building, not only in this series, but throughout the Cosmere covering multiple series is interesting.

GRRM has lost me as well. His stall is what got me into Rothfuss, only to find he stalled to finish his series, which then lead me to Sanderson, who hasn't disappointed, as there's always something new to read from him. I don't think GRRM will ever actually finish, but if he does, I don't see myself picking up any of the new books until the entire series is out. Then it'll likely be several years to gain the interest to do so. They show finished the main storyline and the books will only broaden the side events. Maybe in 10 years could I sit down to read the entire series as he intends it to be, but even another decade doesn't guarantee he finishes it.

I was just talking to my cousin about how many good authors are putting out books this year and Doors of Stone is just icing on the cake.

Ha. GRRM's failure to work is what got me into Rothfus (and Lynch's Gentlemen Bastards). Yeah, HBO finishing it just has me being done with it. Unsatisfying as it was, it's over.

Would not surprise me. I wish more authors would put a progress bar on their sites for fans to know where they stand.

What does surprise me is how many grad schools rejected Sanderson before staying at BYU, when his submission was Elantris. I

I'm only worried that he'll burn himself out before finishing Stormlight, but I think the way he goes about doing other series and projects to help keep him fresh, motivated, and not going stale trying to write one epic series straight thru is great. He's young enough to finish Stormlight in the next 20 or so years, assuming he doesn't burnout.

I almost thought about picking up his leather bound Way of Kings that was started on Kickstarter this week, but held back. I could see them being sought after, but I've never bought 'collector books', so held off.

I was worried I'd see him cancelled. There was a wave last week that got Scott Lynch, Sam Sykes, and Myke Cole, but Sanderson seems to be in the clear.

2 Dresden Files books
I have most of those and have never read them. My cousin has been in jail for like 10 years and he's an avid reader. My aunt gave me a bunch of those books and I haven't touched them yet. 1, they are paper. Not on my phone. 2, always seemed a little meh to me. A paranormal investigator. Seems like a Harry Potter YA thing.

Forgot about the final Utred book from Bernard Cornwell coming too.

The sheer scope of that thing is awe-inspiring. He's bit off a lot. Lets hope he keeps chewing.

If he finishes, he'll place himself in that upper tier with Tolkien, Jordan (where he already finished WoT for him), and Martin. When he finishes the first arc of Stormlight (book 5), I think he'd already be in par with Martin, and that's without considering Mistborn/etc. He's got a lot of promise that I'm hoping he's able to follow through and I could see Stormlight right there with Lord of the Rings, if not surpass.

I mean, it's somewhat trashy urban fantasy but they are a lot of fun. I'd recommend reading at least the first one. They go quickly
