I'm still trying to decide if hypothermia is real or just something people lie about to ruin pre-spawn kayak fishing. The general rule is 120. The air and water temperature need to add up to 120 or it's a no go without like a thousand dollar space suit.
That's why you get a nice, dry, inflatable boat with very little chance of getting you wet. :D

I just need to figure out a better place to launch where I don't have to step into the water to push off to get away from shore without bottoming out.

Get a pair of walmart muck boots. I saw some sexy ones with frog eyes on the toe that would look great on you!

Update: the lakes weren't unfrozen yet. The shores were mostly open but there were some big ice chunks in the middle still. I probably could have fished some of the open areas but it would have been extremely limiting. Another week or so of these temps and they might be open for business.

Alright, charged the trolling motor batter up. Now that I've found myself with way too much free time, I think I'm going to sneak out with the kids and go for at least a boat ride at some point; maybe drag a trolling line to try and get something here early. We have a bunch of 50ish degree days coming up. Social distancing at it's best.

Is anything biting up your way this time of year?

Not a ton yet, in the past it's been a struggle just to get a few fish on any given day. But right around may/june the bass start bedding down and things can pick up.

Yeah that's what I kinda figured. I also get the idea of going out just to get the Hell out of the house.

Nice. I've been bank fishing here and there, waiting for the water to warm up enough to be safe on the yak. Right now we seem to be getting a lot of 50-60* days but the water is still holding at about 45*.

Been experimenting with the NED rig. So far looks to be true what they say about it. It flat out catches fish.

Funny you mention the NED rig. I just purchased (December?) some ned rig jigs to try out. I really like the compact presentation of it. Seems like you an just chuck it into stuff.

It's an amazing little bait man. And the Zman stuff that floats really adds to that. Those little Crawz look so real hoping them along the bottom. Hell, I'd eat that shit too haha.

So. Kayak Fishing has sucked bass balls this year. Too many pleasure boaters social distancing on MY FUCKING RIVER.

Its hard to work a spot when there is a steady stream of dunk-ass motherfuckers splashing and hollering past you in groups of 15-30 with music blaring and beer cans falling out of their yaks/tubes. What was scenic and peaceful last year is a horrid mess of garbage and irritating noises.

State parks are packed too.

I'm moving to somewhere without people.

Hit lake Arthur yesterday. Stopped counting kayakers at 130. Boats I counted 30+ before I stopped. And this was just in one creek arm. Couldn't even fish without having 20-30 people move right through the spot. Gave up and went home 3 hours in.

People are the disease. Not corona.

I tried kayak fishing for the first time last weekend. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I was in a river, not a lake, but it took me forever to tie on a different lure going downstream and having the current spin me around and what not.

It’s something a group can do though, since 3 people is pushing it on my John boat, and my old Evinrude needs a hard to find part

It's not the easiest thing. Confined space. Room to move. And on a river unless you anchor (often a bad idea) you're in constant motion. There's some skill involved, especially in moving water man. I've stopped using leaders. I used to fish braid to flourocarbon leaders but the only line to line knot I can stand is the FG knot and it's a motherfucker to tie on a yak. Take two rods with me. Baitcaster gets straight braid, spinning rig gets straight mono. Fuck it. Only thing I'm catching out there right now is a people rash.

Decided to say fuck work and head out to one of the premier bass fisheries in PA on Thursday. In the rain.

So fishing during the work week in the rain.

That HAS to get me some room to move right? It can't be crawling with people in those conditions, right?

I've got a serious case of cabin fever. I'm pissed. Probably pissed enough to finally move south. Six months out of a year is just not enough time. I need a 12-month-fishery. Fuck snow and ice.
