I can see them using Felix where he something between a starter and an opener. Maybe a hybrid of the two where they have him penciled in for 50 pitches and then evaluate on a hitter-to-hitter basis from there.

Does anyone know if players that aren’t going to play if they are going to get paid?

I honestly don't know. It still counts as a season so my guess is they will get paid for the 60 games.

I’m just wondering because if you voluntary refuse to play I am assuming there is something in the contracts. I’m sure the owners would wave that but the MLBPA has kept pushing for more games because they would get a higher percentage of their normal salaries.

There probably is a small percentage for opt out pay. I would assume the MLBPA made sure of that.

The rules as I understand is that if you are considered high risk you still get paid. If not, you don't get paid. High risk is basically if you have preexisting illnesses that puts you in greater danger if you get it.

According to MLB’s 101-page COVID-19 operations manual, a copy of which was obtained by Yahoo Sports, players who are designated as high-risk by a team doctor will be able to opt out of the season and still receive service time and salary, but MLB will not universally extend the same benefits to players who wish to opt out due to a high-risk family member.

MLB will not require teams to pay players who opt out due to high-risk family members

With how much money Felix has accumulated over his career in Seattle It is just not worth going out there and risk catching the virus and spread it to his family over his $1 million salary.

I don't blame any athlete in any sport for opting out. No money is worth the risk to me and these guys are, or should be, setup better than most of us.
