McCutchin is the perfect sooner.. he's on twitter bashing Texas.. you can tell he's very extra since he lives here in Austin. He gives me Leon Oneal vibes.

he'll be in the portal before we all know it.

If you say so it must be true.

OU football: State Fair of Texas canceled, but Joe Castiglione hopes Red River Showdown can go on at Cotton Bowl
Published: Tue, July 7, 2020 11:45 AM Updated: Tue, July 7, 2020 12:33 PM

For the first time since World War II, the State Fair of Texas has been canceled, the Fair's board announced Tuesday morning.

Still, OU athletic director Joe Castiglione remains hopeful that the Sooners can stage their annual Red River football game Oct. 10 against the Texas Longhorns at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas.

"We understand and respect the decision made by the State Fair of Texas and acknowledge that it was an extremely difficult one," Castiglione wrote. "Our hope remains that we can play the OU-Texas game at the Cotton Bowl, but obviously every aspect of our season requires constant monitoring and planning. The best thing all of us can do at this time is closely follow CDC guidelines to reduce the spread of the virus."

Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte told the Austin American-Statesman that the Fair's cancellation has no impact on the OU-Texas game.

"Though we certainly respect and understand the decision of the folks in Dallas on their cancellation of this year's State Fair of Texas, we fully anticipate that our annual Red River Showdown with Oklahoma will be played in the Cotton Bowl and are continuing to prepare for that," Del Conte said later in a release.

It is with a heavy heart that we must announce the #StateFairofTX will not open for the 2020 season. We can’t wait to welcome you back in 2021, in Texas-style of course, with the biggest and the best, “Howdy, Folks!” #BigTex For more info., please visit https://t.co/MUcfN1JeeFpic.twitter.com/OwCRTF3wmg

Saw that.

Lets say that the RRSO is played.
Why would we play it in the Cotton Bowl with no Fair??

Seems like the perfect time to change something up.

Call it whatever you like but I'd never go to an OU/Texas game without the State Fair of Texas going in full blast around the stadium. Have you ever walked through a battlefield or somewhere a firefight took place? I'm not talking about one that's 150 years old; I'm talking about one that's a few days or weeks old. It's the most uncomfortable thing you can imagine. I'm pretty sure I'd feel about the same way walking to the stadium and there was no Big Tex, no huge car show, the Midway was totally empty and all the exhibit halls were closed and deathly quiet.

Rather it still be at the cotton bowl than at Jerry world. If we don't have any fans, it can still be played there.

@Goldbug the game played several times without the fair too

I was listening to Mark Packer's show today on Sirius XM radio. His goofball question to listeners was to name the CFB stadium that qualifies as the biggest "dive". #1 on his list was the Cotton Bowl...even though it isn't technically a college stadium. I haven't been there since the late 90s but I understand the amenities haven't changed much. Others were Legion Field, Yale's and Ga Tech.

Mark Packer is an idiot.. he pumps ACC because that's who pays his bills. Who cares about the amenities of the cottonbowl? It's in the middle of the state fair.

Gotta stop before I go in on a Packer rant.. caught a glipse of his how on XM the other day driving.. he was like saying not to get political or anything..but goes straight to politics.

Undoubtedly, but I've never gone to a game when there wasn't a helluva lot going on around the stadium to add to the atmosphere. Walking to an important game like that through an abandoned fairgrounds just doesn't do it for me. It would give me that funny feeling up the back of my neck. IF we still play the RRSO, I vote to move it. I would drop the Cotton Bowl in a heartbeat without the fair going on at the same time. Lawsuit? Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever. I know a good lawyer that can break any contract. He even lives in Dallas and he's a great guy.....has done miracles for me before.....the only problem is he is a HUGE Horns fan. But what the heck? He might do it for free.

The Cotton Bowl is weird, when the fair not going on. I went to the Cotton Bowl, when we played Ark.

It didn't seem right walking into an empty Fair Grounds.

If you were the Texas AD and I was the AD at OU I'd be trying to talk you into playing the game like it is now in Dallas every even numbered year and then alternate playing the game in Austin and Norman every odd numbered year. That way in every 4 year time span, Dallas would get 2 games in the Cotton Bowl, OU would get Texas at home in Norman one time and Texas would get OU at home in Austin one time. Bevo in the end zone on Owen Field and the Sooner Schooner driving across the field in DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. We could play those games at night too. The games would always have the crowd divided 50/50 whether they were played in Dallas, Norman or Austin.

Game belongs at the cottonbowl, brother. Covid messed up 2020, but it should continue at the bowl in 2021. I honestly don't care where it ends up this season as long as it's played. Be it in the cottonbowl, jerry world or norman

I hear you. Play it in Austin or Norman before Jerry World. But I'll take Jerry World if we have to do that. I just don't like the Cotton Bowl venue without the State Fair. It would be like taking your own sister to the Senior Prom.
