-Payout of 2.7 million per school last year from the network?? OUCH

I wonder if Scott could do it all over again, would he agree to let Texas bring it's LHN network in tow? The tier 1 and 2 packages would have gone up much higher with UT and ou on board. Conference network would be in a better place even with just the Oklahoma schools and Tech in the picture. Texas would still be shown on the PAC network thus would have had more cable and satellite companies carrying it.

One of the biggest problems with Scott, imo, and it extends to the network is his insistence on pushing and promoting Olympic sports.

It's great that the PAC-12 has won a bunch of championships in water polo, volleyball and gymnastics....but football pays the bills for all of those sports and the PAC hasn't had a team in the cfp in what? 4 years?

Nothing wrong with promoting those sports, there have been good results because of it...but you can't promote those sports to the detriment of the sport that pays for them to exist.

As much as adding UT and Oklahoma would have helped the overall profile of the conference...I'm not sure how likely they would have been to join given the lack of emphasis on football.

He should have taken the two Okie schools when they asked to join and let Texas figure it out from there. Not taking the two Okie schools was his biggest fvckup to date.

I doubt just the 2 Okie schools coming to the PAC was something those schools were seriously considering. It seemed like a power play move to get concessions.

im confused how that works though. every single game is televised. if they arent picked up by ESPN or network or fox or whatever then they go on Pac 12 net. he doesnt push Tennis over football. or soccer. or anyother sport. im not saying i like scott but i dont understand your argument here.

Well if it's olympics sports.. Texas is a pretty big deal in swimming too. Tennis, Golf, volleyball as well. ou and okie st are decent in gymnastics and wrestling, respectfully.

I doubt both oklahoma schools would have left alone, even with CO being there as well. Reason why the Big 12 works is because both Texas and ou are there. Nebraska, and aggy didn't kill it when they left as much as the narrative was.

Too many people make Scott the scapegoat for everything that’s gone wrong for the PAC. He’s made some bad decisions but the teams in the PAC need to step up their game

It's where the emphasis is put. For example, there were plenty of times during football season that I couldn't watch a game that was on, for example, PAC12AZ unless I wanted to upgrade my subscription, but I could watch Women's Gymnastics or something on the local PAC12 station.

Isn't he the one that set up the crap tv deals and lousy bowl tie ins?

Those cost the conference money, but more importantly, they cost the conference exposure. Kids don't want to play where they aren't going to be on tv a lot.

One of the reasons that USC virtually always recruits well, even when we're down, is because we're the 1 PAC school that consistently gets shown on national tv. At the very least, USC/ND is almost always a national broadcast.

But hey, Larry Scott gave us "PAC After Dark" so that we can have games starting when everyone on the East Coast and in the Midwest are headed to bed and people on the West Coast are falling asleep before the game is over. Yay!!

Scott absolutely has to wear this #L. There was no need to pay upfront costs and have the schools (conference) foot the bill. I get that he saw that they would pay it up front and receive even more money down the line. However that bet did not come through.

Then you add the money spent on renting a space outside San Francisco.. It isn't a good look. School athletic departments are bleeding. Again I do feel for him because if he did get UT/ou/osu/tech to come on board, he likely would have been viewed as one of the stronger commissioners.

Players want to go somewhere they win a championship at. If you are competing for a championship, you will be on primetime and the eye balls will be on you. Scott's PAC 12 Network debacle was bad but he's not the only reason the PAC 12 has been struggling. Folks want a scapegoat instead of admitting their program's mistakes.

Sacramento would have been much better.

The conference's capital should be in the LA metro area. That's the biggest market and biggest recruiting hot bead for the conference.

Why would the conference HQ have anything to do with recruiting and/or TV market?

It's about branding and promoting the conference.

Big Ten - Chicago Suburb
ACC - North Carolina
SEC - Alabama
Big 12 - Dallas suburb

You always go to a place you want to promote. It doesn't need to be downtown, it's why the Big 12 and Big Ten went to the burbs.
