Wouldnt have seen this contract coming in a million years. In fact I would have called anyone here a total moron if this the the contract numbers they would have guessed.

I still cant tell if this is pure genius on the part of the Chiefs....or idiotic. First blush I say genius. 10 years of Mahomes at any price cant be that bad.

not really. This is like 2 contracts in one. Where in 10 years 45 mil might sadly be a low #.

Mahomes in a normal contract could probably ask for 40 mil & get it.

Still curious about the particulars?
Is all ten years realistic?

Probably not realistic in the sense that 5-6 years from now Mahomes will be looking for a raise. But if he doesn't want to re-work his deal down the road there is no reason to believe that the Chiefs would part ways with him during this unless he suffers a major injury or does some wild off the field stuff.

You'll just have to wait for him to create a new thread to give his opinion. It likely will have a story leading up to him hearing the news... such as going to a post-gym milkshake meeting with the boys.

Fuck me that's a whole lot of years and a whole lot of money. That MLB contract tho. But I guess he's worth it.

I agree. at least at 1st look. This is excellent for the Chiefs. (barring injuries in the next few years)

Even if he gave them a hell of a discount(say 10 years/$200 million) they are still in trouble, teams can barely afford the $130-150 million deals now.

What are you talking about? The NFL has never had more cap room and less cap casualties in the last couple years since they first instituted the salary cap. You have to REALLY underperform to get cut these days. Teams are flush with cap space.

Things might get a little wonky next year with the revenue decrease but after that the cap is going to continue to explode and contracts wont keep pace with the cap in the same way that they havent kept pace over the last 4 or 5 years.

you know if a player could (is willing to) think hey an employer says I will give 450 mil to play your career here for the next ten years. That should be an easy yes. Not how to penny pinch some extra out of that.

Speaking of baseball, I remember when A-Rod got a contract that was more than the organization he was going to, cost.

You must've missed the fact that the Rams made Goff the highest paid QB and then lost a ton of players because they could no longer pay them the same money.

meh in the rams defense alot of those players needed cut anyway. Only Littleton was a major loss to the cap

Oh wow it's real.

Told the Cowboy fans here that Mahomes was going to likely sign a new deal before the season and I was told no that's not going to happen. Well it happened.

Can't wait to see the numbers because it no doubt is going to drive up Dak's asking price.

10 year deal that doesn't kick in until 2022 isn't going to change a damn thing in the Dak talks.

It has to be at least $300 million right? If freaking Matt Ryan got a 5 year/$150 mil extension then it's only natural to double that since Mahomes got 10.
I'm reading 400 or 450M. The details would be interesting to see as I'm sure most of that is in the latter years of the contract.

Now....it'll be almost impossible to improve other areas with him being paid so much.
