Got my first handgun today. Had to wait in line for hours just to look at Scheels, so I just went ahead and got it.

Good choice for a first handgun?

Ruger 9mm

Ruger Security-9 Compact 9mm Pistol with Viridian E-Series Red Laser

Mine is actually the slightly larger version, they had it preowned.

Very nice...congrats!

I assume you purchased model 3816, the one that has two 15 round magazines?
Ruger® Security-9® Centerfire Pistol Model 3816

It probably would be a good idea to buy a Hogue Handall Beavertail grip sleeve in order to give you more control while shooting.
Security-9 - Ruger Grips - Handgun Grips - Hogue Products

Also get yourself a couple more spare magazines.

And watch this short video by attorney and firearms instructor Colion Noir.

It's a very good idea to get a membership in a legal & financial protection organization like Colion Noir suggests in that video. I recommend the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network (ACLDN). They will provide you with legal & financial assistance should you ever need to use your firearms in self defense. Membership also includes providing you with lots of training videos.

Here is a video on field stripping, cleaning, and reassembly of the Ruger Security 9.

Practice and train as much as you can... and welcome to the world of handgun ownership!

Very nice! In term of "first gun" I'd say that a revolver is a tad safer but that's a very nice piece that you'll grow into quickly.

Congrats~

Well, now you done it and need to start saving because a 45 is going to be on the want list within a month. On the second go around check out the S&W M&P line. I'm in love with the 45C.

You'll love the Sig. One of the best manufacturers on the planet.

Now if I can just get some more ammo. Most places around here are out of stock and it’s almost impossible to get it shipped into California because of our BS laws

Been having a blast shooting the Sig at the range, but damn, the ammo gets to be expensive. The 30 day wait between gun purchases was up on Sunday so bought this one today at the gun shop. Browning Buckmark UDX. 10-12 days from now the state will let me bring it home. original.img.jpg

I just bought the sig p320 compact. .45acp

How does it shoot/feel?

They have that one at the range that I’ve been wanting to try, but they aren’t letting people “rent” guns for now. State told them to stop all rentals due to Covid....

I got my first real six-string. Bought it at the five-and-dime.
Played it 'til my fingers bled. Was the summer of '69. Me and some guys from school, had a band and we tried real hard.

If you’re going for home defense, gotta go with a shotgun. To carry, a 9mm or .45 is the move. Smaller and better operation is what to look for. Sig rules, but a Glock would do in a pinch.

No, it’s 30 days, from purchase to purchase, could buy on July 1st and then again on july 31. Bought my first one on June 19th, (Couldn’t pick it up until July 1st for 10 day hold plus shop wasn’t open till July 1st) and the 30 days was actually up on JuOh 19th, but gun shop is only open Wed-Sat, so today was first day I could get there. It’s a 30 day wait, then a 10 day hold after The 30 day window, so basically you can only bring one home every 40 days

Hopefully will get to try it out at the range. Since the 30 day window closed today it will be end of August before I could do anything, and who knows if they will have it in stock then, but it is a great looking gun. Enjoy it

Thank you. I was very confused, like did you get one from a gun show or something and does that affect wait time? I know thats stupid which is why i was confused, Lol. Enjoy man.
