Anyone have the SNES Classic and more to the point, has anyone hacked theirs to add more games?

I bought this for my kids and they love it, but it is missing some pretty sweet games from my childhood that they would love to play. I am thinking about hacking the system from the videos and articles I have read, but I don't want to mess it up as I heard you can break the system completely. So, has anyone tried this? If so, how'd it work out for you? Also, what are the best places to find the roms?

Not sure.

I actually ended up buying a Wii really cheap with the idea of doing the same thing but I've actually been too busy playing the Wii games to get to process of getting the older games.

I did do some work with my ps classic but my success rate on good roms was only about 70% and my wife balks at the idea of me sitting around and playing jrpgs for hundreds of hours.

A little off topic but have you tried an emulator?

Can't you buy one for under $100? I say, hack away.

That is awesome! But if it doesn't play "Tessie" it's not the best one

I prefer the analog swing system. It takes a bit to get used to it again, but its so satisfying hitting with it.

I hacked my friend's SNES a few weekends ago. There is no way to put all the SNES games on it like you can with the NES Classic, but you can get enough on there.

I just used hakchi2 and a generic batch of emulator files.

  1. Buy a Raspberry Pi.
  2. Follow the instructions to load RetroPie to it.
  3. Google an emulator site that has the files of virtually any video game. Virtually any system before PlayStation 1 work just fine. Some PS1 games work fine but others don’t.
  4. Transfer the files via Putty or something along those lines.
  5. Buy controllers that connect via Bluetooth. PS4, Nintendo pro, or XBOX controllers are all options. I use Nintendo Wii Pro controllers.
  6. The only limit to how many you put on there is based on how big your micro SD card is.

The Raspberry Pi is the “computer”, RetroPie is the operating system (free to download), Putty is a software application you can move files wirelessly to it, you can download all of the games for free from a bunch of websites, etc.

Just reading up on it and getting it loaded would take a couple of hours but the amount of games is pretty much unlimited for what you want here.

Or you can just hack the one you have.

It's not difficult.

My buddy is a computer geek. When he went into the military he gave me a "xbox" i guess you could call it. It contained every single nintendo, snes and sega game ever made. Sooooo fun.
