5 month layoff (longer than a regular offseason)
8 game "regular season" to get in "playoff form" (laughable)
22 teams (laughable)
no home court advantage for any team. (laughable)
no fans (laughable)
no solution if someone gets sick other than to just ban them from the rest of the season

this is not pro sports. its a circus. Its a sideshow gimmick.

‘Worst’ NBA season ever? A confluence of catastrophes have made it so

“There have been seasons when the product on the court wasn’t great, like the early 2000s,” says The Athletic’s resident NBA expert, David Aldridge. “Kobe and Shaq were great, and the Lakers were dominant, but there weren’t that many really great teams or memorable playoff series. (I was bored out of my mind during the Spurs-Nets Finals in ’03.) Allen Iverson and the Sixers making the Finals was a great story, but let’s be honest: Philly was a terrible offensive team that season, led by an inefficient shooter. The calendar year of 2004 was brutal, with Kobe Bryant’s r*pe proceedings taking up most of the first half of the year, then with Malice at the Palace in November. But that overlapped two seasons.

“This year, though, takes the cake. And throws the cake into a river. And the river is by a nuclear plant. And the river then catches on fire.”

Indeed, there has been no other season in which pro basketball lost at least $1 billion (and probably more), was embroiled in political turmoil that exposed tensions at home and in China, lost two titans of the sport, one in a tragic accident, and suffered a double-digit drop in the percentage of viewership, due in part to two key injuries on teams the NBA was counting on to drive fan interest.

no one really cared about this season (at least numbers wise) before Covid 19.

Now they are putting together the most half-ass circus show with a break longer than an actual offseason. Its really such a clown act.

At least they are trying though...we might not see baseball for a year, two years maybe 3 years bc the players and owners can't come to an agreement. Actually have the players back though bc they are taking most or all of the risk.

Yeah won't this season's winner just have an asterisk next to their name? I would think so and it won't mean as much. If Lebron were to get his 4th ring it wouldn't mean as much. Giannis his 1st? That would be ashame. I don't know what to think about it honestly. This is one year I am glad my team isn't in the mix though...doesn't mean as much.

Solid list. Killian Hayes reminds me of D'Lo. Not just because he's a lefty, but he plays with more change of pace than blazing speed. Haliburton I think could contribute earlier than most of these guys, but I'm not sure where he tops out.

I'm a big fan of Avdija thought. Toppin likely would be my safe pick to be the best out of this bunch.

Aaron Nesmith is someone to keep an eye out on. That guy can shoot and has good size at 6'6".

I would agree this season has been really underwhelming, mostly because of the amount of players that have been hurt(Steph, Klay, KD, Kyrie, Blake Griffin, John Wall etc) along with load management. But they are trying to save the season. I'm glad they are at least giving it a go. I'm not sure why any fan wouldn't be? Will it look alot different, yeah, but it's better than nothing.

Yeah, I agree with that assessment. I don't think this draft has a truly game changing player, but could certainly help fill roles to fill out a roster. I think this is one of those drafts where you should try and fill need at the top since most players are interchangeable. Like for instance if the Warriors got the #1 pick I'd probably go Wiseman or Toppin. I'm hoping Toppin lands with GSW. I'd love to see the lineup of Steph, Klay, Wiggins, Dray and Obi.

Toppin is a really good option, but I'm not sure what direction the Warriors are going. This pick is going to be more of a luxury pick than most. I can talk myself into many of the top guys in this draft, aside from Lamelo. Initially I wanted Wiseman, shifted to Edwards then Toppin. Avdija is a great option if the Warriors slip a few picks. Rumor is the Warriors like Haliburton a lot, but that could always just be a smoke screen so a team might not trade up in front of the Warriors for someone they're looking for. Nesmith looks like a good player too, but he's not worth a top 5 pick, even in this draft.

This is a total crapshoot. In the past I had a least an idea of generally who I would want the Warriors to draft. But this year is wide open.

Disagree.

First off, it's not like whoever wins will have cheated.

Also, everyone is playing by the same rules.

In fact, considering everything that's happened and the fact that no one will have a true home court advantage, you could make a case that this seasons championship means more than others.

The only "asterisk" would be to note that this season was different and why.

Exactly. If the playoffs are still 4 series to pick a winner, and the 1 seeds don't get much help vs being 8 seeds, you're right it may be an asterisk saying it was an even greater accomplishment

How can you possibly be confused? He's pure troll, that's his only goal here, to ruin threads.

The reason he doesn't come around much anymore is we are over it. He used to get us all abuzz fighting with him and stuff but now he's just old news. Pretty similar to Montalban.

As far as asterisks, the books and the HOF plaques and everything will say so-and-so won the ring this year, and they will have worked just as hard for it as any other winner. Asterisks are only in people's heads, and if Wiggy wants to go around thinking one year is one thing and another is more legit or whatever, good for him. Means nothing.

I mean then I guess it's a good thing they don't care what you think, and those who matter think some season is better than nothing.

what do you want them to do if just one guy got sick? Do you think every industry needs to be shut down for one Covid diagnosis?

and I might agree if they talked much about the risk. It's about the money and they don't want to give at all as evidenced by their proposal.

That said, notice the difference between NBA and MLB. Have not hear many (or any) NBA players saying anything about money. If it's an issue they are smart enough to keep it to themselves.

ll I've heard about NBA is there are financial issues to talk over. Not what anyone wants or that they cannot come to an agreement. at the very least, their PR Dept. is far better.
