Haha should be a good one TBH. But when Ive had 0 sports for 2.5 months my cockiness is naturally going to increase.

Outside of Zona and Chicago this is probably the most ideal match up.

Just hoping we get to see it happen.
coincidentally, Wild are probably our best match-up as well.
unless you fuckers go all Darby Hedrickson on us

Arizona gives us fits, and you never know which Chicago will show up.

Ha yeah if any team fears the Wild, they probably are among the 7 who already had their seasons ended.

Wild were playing well when play halted tho, so at that time we would been a minor threat.

My biggest worry is that Laine is bored with playing video games and is interested in playing hockey. That spells trouble for the Flames.

he's going to be sooooo fat.

even with a full training camp he didn't really get his legs moving until mid-november.
Hellebuyck could be an issue though.

that's going to be a fun series to watch

Jackets could realistically have the upper hand everywhere but forward. That’s a pick em to me.

I'm sorta being facetious.

I know a lot of people around here who are originally from the GTA. And every single one is already looking past us. "When we get to Boston" and "We have to be ready for Bergeron/Pasta" etc.

8 v 9 seed is theoretically as even as it gets. Our D vs Leafs forward power should be a great matchup.

I do always say I’m sick of losing to Boston.

I guess losing to Columbus would be a nice change of pace.

So with the round robin using regular season OT and the play in using playoff OT, will there be shootouts in the round robin?

From what I recall :
Shootout rules for the top group round robin
Endless overtime for play-in games

And while we wait,

Have they announced officially that the Winter Classic in Minny on 1.1.21 will be the opening game of the 21-21 season?

(this is why I dont like the resumption. Just call the 19-20 season and move forward)

I'm kinda suprised by the long training camp time, the full length of most series, the number of teams involved, etc. It seems odd that in a pandemic where minimizing the number of people involved and shrinking the scope of things is helpful, that the league would have such a long period of time for all this and move forward with literally the largest number of teams ever in the playoffs. How does that make any sense?

Without significant shrinking of the virus, I just don't see how an operation involving hundreds of players/coaches/team members and by extension thousands of additional contact points in hotel staff, food service, medical, etc. can be self contained. Not without a literal campus that can be built where people don't leave. And then that doesn't work because what about the families of all those people. I don't think the athletes themselves are likely at much risk, but what about all the guys around them? And how do they separate from their families during a crisis like this? I'm sorry but if you said I had to leave my wife/kids for a couple months while this is all going on... fuck that. If you told me they could come with me, even worse.

I think there is a significant chance that they will go forward with a plan, a few people get sick, and then the whole thing is called off before it gets rolling.

A better plan would have been to use like 8 teams and play two rounds of best of 3 and a final best of 5 or 7 and see how it goes. Have the whole thing be over in like 3-4 weeks. Use what you learned to figure if next season is possible, what changes would need to be made if so, etc.

They set the goal here as not wanting to exclude a team that maybe could have made the playoffs. Sorry Dan Boyle, that's the wrong goal.

So the players have agreed to a return to play format ... but havent officially agreed to return to play

31 thoughts from Friedman

As the players discussed their vote for the playoff system, there was plenty of debate about whether or not they should play at all. Finally, they separated that conversation into, “Let’s vote on the playoff format now, and get to the other question after.”
