I’ll give you this , changing teams doesn’t always work out for stud WRs. Odell for example.
Odell also walked into a worse situation. QB is worse. Coach was worse and not geared towards the passing game like Kliff is. And I feel like Nuk is just better than Odell as it is.

I'm not saying it's gtd that Nuk fits in seamlessly, but I think he has a much better shot than others (Odell specifically since he was mentioned as the example)

Yes he did.

And this is why, despite the fact that Barry was more spectacular and definitely the RB that you had to watch, Emmitt was the better player. Consistent chunk yards is more valuable to the team and it makes it easier to sustain drives when you are playing from 3rd and 4 instead of 3rd and 12.
Wait. You're actually trying to say Emmitt Smtih was the better player than Barry fucking Sanders? That's just blatantly false. Emmitt had the luxury of elite OLs (something I don't think Barry ever had) and others on the offense to take the defense away from focusing on him. You're talking crazy talk, meng.

Yes.

Sanders was more spectacular. Emmitt contributed more to winning football.

trade the Great Wall of Dallas for the five boys in blue in front of Barry. I hear ya, but “better” player, is tricky. Throw in Troy Aikman for Scott Mitchell too.

So you're saying if Barry was on those Cowboy teams that he wouldn't have done as much as Emmitt?

My opinion.

Barry was certainly the best of that type of RB that I have ever seen.

But tell me this, how many RBs who ran for as high a percentage of negative or zero yards as Barry did played on consistently good football teams?

Part of his brilliance was also part of the style where he turned down 3-4 yard gains for the shot at a homerun. It is great when you hit it, but not so great when you strike out. Which Barry did a lot.

Stats may have been better, but I would bet on fewer wins for the Cowboys.

It’s also great to have a fantastic defense that allows for 4th quarter running games.

What would Emmitt have done on the Lions?

My guess is a lesser version of what he did in Dallas.

I am a life long Redksins fan. You know this. Back in the 90s when Emmitt was in his prime the Skins were actually relevant. Emmitt always killed us.

Barry on the other hand posted some pretty massive dud games from time to time, including an epic one in the NFC championship against my Skins. Without looking at game logs, I just don’t think Emmitt would ever have a game like that.

Emmitt would have done what he did on the Cardinals.

Emmitt needed one yard against the Eagles and the refs gave him two chances to do it and he couldn't even get positive yardage once. It's selective memory to act like Emmitt could do anything when there wasn't a big hole. He played behind the best Guard ever.

Everyone on the Lions has games like that. It's funny how you ignore the differences around them.

Yeah. I hear ya. Just hard to gauge. Two completely different teams.

Early 90’s Boys and Skins eh? Nah, can’t say I recall. :frusty:

I love Emmitt and agree the way the 90s Cowboys(and the current Cowboys for that matter) ran the ball is the way to do it, but if the Lions had drafted him instead of the Cowboys his career would have been closer to what Blair Thomas or Johnny Johnson had than the HOF career he had.

As far as negative runs go Walter Payton held the record until Sanders broke it and i believe AD is approaching it and may already have the most negative runs in NFL history. Maybe @averagejoe could use his PFR wizardy to see who the active leaders are for negative runs I tried but couldn't get the play index figured out :noidea:

You guys... quit giving me homework!!!

Actually, i tried yesterday. Not easy. Even tried doing a "streak" stat search of games with at least 1 carry for zero or less yards. Didnt get the results i we are looking for.

The much-involved stat would mean taking EVERY SINGLE PLAY for a season and then extracting the plays for zero or negative yards. (And then remove all players except for RB.)

Its one reason I only did this stat once.

And then to go back for each season that Barry, Emmitt and Walter played in... no thank you.

Barry better athlete, Emmitt better football player. Not sure how that's arguable, or a slight to either of them

Is Emmitt even a top 10 running back all-time?

Add them together and you get Thurman Thomas!

Seriously? All time leading rusher, all time rushing TD leader, 3 time SB champ, SB MVP, 8 time pro bowler, 6 time all pro, NFL MVP, HOF. There are not ten RB's in league history with more impressive resumes. There can be debate as to wether he was the best, for sure, but top ten? That's not a question
