Dude would have had a monster year if he didn't get hurt in the 1st game of the season. My guess is he's going to have to sit out, but he should get a medical RS based off of last year, so he'd still have 3 years of eligibility if he wanted to do that. He's a talented kid, with a lot of upside. Had he been able to play last year, I think most would be looking at him coming into this season as a potential 1st round guy for the 2021 draft.

If he’s good, I’ll gladly take him, but I hope it doesn’t create another Justin Fields situation with Vandagriff

Kid seemed to have a lot of potential coming out of H.S. Has been pretty injury prone but it's always better to have more options.

My take is that if he is good enough to win the starting job, he will only be at UGA for 2 years and will then be gone. Vandagriff would then have a year under his belt and would step in. If he can't win the starting job now, he won't hold off Vandagriff. I see Beck and/or Mathis being the losers here. Or this is a sign that Mathis won't be playing. Also, I wouldn't bet against Beck ... he's a good QB. End of the day, our QB room went from being pretty shitty, to having a really high ceiling.

The kid can play and he's dedicated.

He graduated high school early because he wanted to get to USC and get started learning the playbook, etc.

He started as a true freshman, which is rare at USC. He didn't lose his job because of poor play, he lost because of injury and Kedon Slovis turning out to be a much better qb than anyone knew.

His numbers as a freshman were virtually identical to Matt Barkley's in his freshman year.

Barkley: 211/352 59.9% 2,735 yards 15 tds 14 ints.

Daniels: 216/363 59.5% 2,672 yards 14 tds 10 ints.

Also, the kid never sulked. He was on the sidelines for every game and would get with Slovis to talk to him and try to help him out during games.

I think you guys will be happy with him.

Thanks ... our QB room just got a whole lot better, that's for sure. Wish Fromm had come back - Good Jake not Bad Jake , that is - but am fine with Daniels or Newman.

Nah, he can't play this year, and he will have plenty of competition when he gets here. Even if eligible, not sure he'd beat out Newman.

When a player transfers it usually means he ain't good enough to start............ain't gonna be any different at Jawja for him.

Pretty dumb statement considering the last 3 Heisman trophy winners transferred. And one of the favorites this season was also a transfer.

There was no backup. When Fromm left, we had Stetson Bennett who was a walk-on who left and came back on scholly; then D'Wan Mathis who had a brain tumor and just got cleared to play and has never taken a snap in college; then Carson Beck coming in this year who would be a true freshman. That's it. That was the QB room when Fromm left early.

We then got the top 2 QBs in the transfer portal. Newman can play immediately and will be the starter, and Daniels likely has to sit. Quite an upgrade in the QB room, and for now no one is pissed. Certainly Mathis or Beck will transfer in the future if they don't win the job next year, because we have a 5* coming in.

Best case assuming all things work out:
2020 - Newman
2021 - Daniels
2022 - Daniels\Vandagriff
2023 - Vandagriff

Great surprise if Mathis or Beck play well enough to be in the mix.

2 of the above to transfer at some point, that's just the way it is.

QBs are overrated. As long as you have a great OL, RB and defense, you don't need a good QB. :D

USC fans, what are we getting?

Football IQ- 10
Mechanics-10
arm strength- 7-8
escape ability- 7
Character- 9
motivation-? at USC maybe 6

If you have the tools around him and keep him protected he's a poor mans Baker Mayfeild . I saw him in HS and watched him at USC . He has never had to fight for a job and was always praised. It's going to be interesting how motivated he is. Potential is there. He's way more ready to go than Alabamas Bryce Young who will need at minimum a year to be functional.

He was starter but was hurt early in the year. Not his fault they found a gem in Slovis . You can't take the job away from him now .
