The NFL will now allow teams to designate three players to return from injured reserve.
The 2019 Eagles say the change is coming one year too late. This rule has predictably snowballed after the league abandoned its moratorium on any players returning, but it remains a sensible reform. It was patently absurd in a contact sport to have such an all-or-nothing injury policy. The concern remains teams manipulating and abusing the rule to stash non-injured players, but three remains a defensible number.

If they go with more games per season, they should revisit the whole IR system. More guys will be getting hurt, and it would be better to let guys sit and heal for a few games without losing roster slots, which they'll need more of, not less.

They should scrap the whole thing.

If a guy gets hurt, and can come back, let him come back.

Isn't it more about keeping a full roster without losing the talent to a competitor?

well I think if they go on IR they should have to miss a certain amount of games. I dont like how long it is for IR returns. Think it should only be 4 games.

What they need to do is expand the rosters to say 65 but keep how many players can dress for the game the exact same. That way they if someone is out for a month they can remain on the roster without taking up a spot for someone else. Currently it's either go on IR or stay on the active roster but be inactive which hurts another players chances to make an impression.

Sure, that would be fine. Make it a minimum amount of games.

But season long ending seems dumb.

65 might be a bit much, but I like the idea

The whole thing with adding games is a subject for another time, but right now there are a lot of very marginal players in the league already. Greatly expanding the rosters will not help. It will just water down the teams.

How many true NFL caliber quarterbacks are there? We don't even have enough for every team we have.

Long overdue. Too much roster juggling and guys having their seasons pre-maturely cut short because of this outdated rule.
