You can never have too many marginal RBs as long as someone can run down on kickoff coverage...

I think he could be a good change of pace back for Ten I See

That would be a good landing spot but seems like he's possibly going to wait it out for someone to give him what he's looking for.

Hyde is about as average as average can be as an RB but he'll still give you quality carries and breakout for some long gains so it's a solid move for the Hawks.

With the injury Penny sustained I think you need some insurance just in case he's not the same guy and Carson is a guy that has an injury history so Hyde could be pressed into action more than expected.

Mmm 1 year $4M. Seems like a slight overpay (think an A+ would be 2-3M) but he's coming off his best season where he ran behind a bottom 10 OL in the league (not that there's any improvement with Seattle, although maybe for once an OL draft pick in Lewis will pan out... he was one of the best run blocks in College).

He'll be 30... but he doesn't have a lot of carries to his name... but a # of injuries in his career. Still... it's a back with experience who rushed for 1,000 last year... Hopefully covers us until Penny gets back.

Edit: Obvious to me Freeman wants more money... probably in the 3 year range at $6-7M per. We just don't need to spend the money there.

Seems like they more or less gave Freeman's contract to Hyde which makes it seem like a slight overpay.

Kudos to Freeman for managing his money well and not forced to play anymore, but $4 mil is about all he's worth on the open market.

I like the signing and I prefer Hyde who came off a good season than Freeman that hasn't had a good season since his major injury. I would honestly prefer Marshawn Lynch and I think he is available if we need him but overall having an insurance behind Carson whom has gotten hurt every season but one was necessary. If we can add either clowney or Griffen and another WR (Josh Gordon, Antonio Brown) I would be happy.

I didn't want Freeman cause of the money, injuries and I think his YPC went down when he did play.

Freeman is better than Hyde...no question imo... YPC...the OL kinda retreated in talent, but Free doesn't look as quick to the hole either so there is something to your point.

Not bad pick up for $4 mil for one season, still has some wiggle, but he's not worth any more than that.

All I want is 1 RB to stay healthy for a full season.

Um WTF with Beastmode?

Was he asking for to much?

Bringing Lynch in last year was Deaperationmode, boss.

You go with a younger guy who didn't basically retire already when you have an off-season to prepare for it.

Hyde's $4M contract has just $750K in guaranteed money, (signing bonus). If by the end of preseason the Seahawks RB injury situation looks better, or a rookie looks good, (or of course Hyde looks disappointing), then Hyde is toast. If Hyde makes the Week 1 roster then his $1.5M salary will become guaranteed. After that he can earn up to $500K for the year in game day roster bonuses and there are unlikely to be earned incentives which could add another $1.25M. There's a fair chance Hyde will be cut before Week 1 and then re-signed for Week 2, (especially if the Seahawks only want him for 8-10 games). That would negate the salary guarantee.

Yah it's pretty favorable for Seattle. I'm surprised they got Hyde that cheap, but maybe Hyde thinks Penny wont be ready to go for a while and Carson seems to get injured all the time. Hyde might be able to secure something decent if he has another good year - although he IS running behind Seattle's O-Line... lol (not that Houston's was much better).

Hyde is a good runner. He has historically been bad in pass protection. Haven't followed him the past couple of years. Never seems to stick on a team
