This is the problem with politics when it comes to professional sports. Politicians want the millions and sometimes billions in revenue they generate for the city but they hate putting up any money because “public money” has become a bad word.

No doubt...and rightfully so.

The new model seems to disguise the public money in a travel/tourism dress with a hotel/airport car rental surtax. At the end of the day the owner should be financially invested (significantly) in any new stadium and I don't think Davis approached OAK in that manner.

Yeah the Rams are pathetic in many ways.

They have the best short Dlineman and can't even win.

I get what you are saying, but it is ten times better financially for a city to join in a partnership where they end up owning the facility and can receive the tax revenue for non sporting events. The City of Seattle allowed the enter Seattle Center to die because they refused to put money into buildomg an arena for the Sonics. Yet, they put money into the Sodo Section of Seattle for the football and baseball stadiums and that zone has become the number 1 destination for bars, clubs and music venues. The Seahawks and Mariners don’t get the revenue for the A list musical acts that go into the stadium. The highest grossing event in either stadium since they were built was a WWE Wrestlemania that the city received revenue, not the Seahawks or Mariners. I get it looks bad on paper saying public money into stuff, but IMO it is better to put up a bond then eventually get free revenue for your city so you get essentially free money so you don’t need a tax raise.

The NFL owners agreed to lend the Rams another $500 million for SoFi Stadium.

Same. Rams owner Stan Kroenke has been pushed to the limit by his monstrous development in Los Angeles. His request for $500 million in additional stadium financing was granted, but it's unclear if the "doubling of the amount of time typically required to pay the money back" was also passed. The COVID-19 pandemic was horrendous timing for Kroenke, although it's hard to feel too bad for someone reportedly worth $10 billion. The Rams' financial issues have even spilled over to football operations as they have been late on payments to a couple of players, including Todd Gurley. This sizable loan should get them through any short-term issues. They will, however, need Angelenos to fill the stadium when it's opened to the public.
Will the NFL get paid back?

Agree on the partnership.

Especially for multi-purpose venues that can generate revenue aside from the main tenant (NFL team let's say).
