The NFL owners agreed to lend the Rams another $500 million for SoFi Stadium.

Same. Rams owner Stan Kroenke has been pushed to the limit by his monstrous development in Los Angeles. His request for $500 million in additional stadium financing was granted, but it's unclear if the "doubling of the amount of time typically required to pay the money back" was also passed. The COVID-19 pandemic was horrendous timing for Kroenke, although it's hard to feel too bad for someone reportedly worth $10 billion. The Rams' financial issues have even spilled over to football operations as they have been late on payments to a couple of players, including Todd Gurley. This sizable loan should get them through any short-term issues. They will, however, need Angelenos to fill the stadium when it's opened to the public.

I'm sure fair-minded viewers can Google search the story and figure out who is most to blame.

sure but how does a guy worth 10 billion gets a 500M grant when the NFL sat by and watched the Oakland & San Diego stadium become the issue why they left
The Chargers are required to raise around $400M towards the stadium costs through seat licences. The Chargers are approximately $350M short of their target. The NFL moved the Chargers. The Rams aren't to blame for that. Obviously there are also extra costs being incurred by the current pandemic. That would affect any owner building a new stadium. Personally i'd be happy to see the NFL pressure the Chargers owner to pay the money due. If he can't raise the money then perhaps he should be pressured into selling some or all of his franchise.

To be honest I wouldn't have been upset if the NFL had said no to Mr. Kroenke's request. The NFL owners' choice was to deal with it behind closed doors or have 2 owners fight it out through the law courts.

If you don't work in this environment it would be unlikely you would understand how prevalent these actiona are in construction contracting.

Easy answer...they (NFL owners) badly wanted a team in the 2nd largest media market in the US.

OAK is the arm pit of SF...Alameda county offered next to nothing in stay incentives until it was too late.

SD...iirc the locals preferred to spend tax payer money on a new site that was not where the Spanos family wanted it...the downtown site failed to garner enough support so he bailed.

The Chargers imo should've gotten more league support to stay in SD....they are truly in no mans land right now.

The owners won't let LA fail before it gets off the ground.

It's not Los Angeles that is failing. There's nothing wrong with the franchise. The problem is 100% the owner. Mr. Spanos has sabotaged the franchised on numerous occasions with his cheap-ass, profit-first attitude to paying key players. No location will support a franchise under his control. The solution is to remove the owner and re-brand the franchise rather than blame Los Angeles or relocate to yet another location.

Mr. Kroenke's request for money was a power-play. Essentially it asked other owners to pay on his behalf or pressure him to sell. For now the owners are backing Mr. Spanos, but this hurts his core support. They won't keep paying for him.

I have no links to Los Angeles and i'm not a US citizen. I have no interest in defending the location. The city is not an NFL hotbed. Fan support has been and will continue to be lukewarm there.

The Rams fans already have let it fail because they didn’t make the playoffs this year.

You have to know Jerry is gonna do everything they can to not lose that market again.

Maybe LA will put a Jerry Jones statue out front of the stadium should they make it 10 years

Good points, but understand...the 31 wanted a franchise back in LA. Kroenke was just the vehicle to do it. He did want he needed to do to get out of STL and the 31 supported that effort so they're not going to let him flap in the wind too much in this difficult stretch he has to battle thru now...they gave him the additional money.

Sure every owner wants a stadium full of rabid fans if they can get it. but this is not about fans in stands...NFL in LA is more about TV sets...considerably more. Kroenke can fall on his face, etc...imo the Rams will be staying in So Cal....the 31 will see to that.

LA fans have never strongly supported their teams except for baseball and basketball.

The Chargers absolutely should still be in SD....OAK never made any real efforts to keep the Raiders inspite of the fan support and if you've never been to Oakland Alameda Coliseum...you really wonder why they ever came back to OAK.

The bottomline is SD and OAK are not LA.

This is the problem with politics when it comes to professional sports. Politicians want the millions and sometimes billions in revenue they generate for the city but they hate putting up any money because “public money” has become a bad word.
