My son inherited some of my nerd things like my Star Wars collection. My AD&D books are collecting dust though.
I honestly think video games do a good job of replacing D&D.

I think those 'card frames' you can find at Hobby Lobby are a good way to decorate walls if you're a geek. I did that with my baseball cards but I could've just as easily done that with my Magic cards. I just don't think the 'dark fantasy' really meshes well with anything. I think people are more likely to use things like pixelart from video games of modern comic books to show off their geek.

I do love some of the old Magic the Gathering art, though.

I played MTG through college, so I have a few power cards.

The bulk of my collection “disappeared” during a move a few years ago, but luckily my good cards (time walk, candelabra, duels, etc) we’re kept separate. Now I just need to bring those to a big show to try to sell. I had them appraised about a year back and they were estimated at about 10k retail.

I didn't start playing Magic until Ice Age so the ability to get the top tier stuff came and went. I did sell a lot of my valuable cards a few years back and that market is really strong.

Unfortunately I run into situations where I have a full set of Force of Will but they've been in probably 50+ decks and are all very worn. "Oh, that card that my friends and I were using almost every game is valuable? Go figure"

I still have a full set of Natural Orders and I probably wouldn't sell them if they were worth 10x what they are because they're in basically every Green deck I ever built. (edit - its banned now lol)

Ice Age is around when I started playing

I sold everything I had to a buddy of mine for $50...I really really regret that.

Ice Age was what, ‘98?

I got out of the game a little after Ice Age. Maybe 2 expansions after?

I think I have one starter deck of MTG cards lying around somewhere. Never really got into it.

I play a decent amount of Hearthstone while I'm shitting or bored somewhere though. It's like MTG for retards so it's right up my alley.

a good Hearthstone deck is actually pretty hard to build. There are so many damn cards...which is also the issue I currently have with MtG

Maybe, but for most people deck building isn't an issue. Once one guy builds something that really works it gets posted on the internet and then everybody just copies it.

Trailer for the next expansion set, Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths.

Magic: The Gathering's publisher Wizards of the Coast has a cross-promo deal with Toho, owners of the Godzilla franchise (Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters, etc.), hence the Godzilla card at the end of the trailer. This entire Ikoria set is themed around kaiju / giant monsters and has many other cross-promotional cards related to the Godzilla franchise.

Wizards of the Coast (WotC) had to issue a statement on Spacegodzilla due to some really unlucky timing:

WotC said:
Months ago, when Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths was finalized, the world was a very different place. As we all adjust to a world altered by the spread of COVID-19, the word "corona" has taken on a new meaning.

WotC said:
In context, the card we're about to show you made sense when it was originally conceived—"the Corona Beam" is Spacegodzilla's traditional breath weapon. However, we were unable to change our printing in time to address the new meaning of corona. The initial printing of Ikoria will arrive on shelves soon and this card will be part of the set, but we are taking steps to remove or change the card where possible.

WotC said:
First, all reprints of Ikoria will remove this card. Second, we'll be renaming the card on Magic: The Gathering Arena to Spacegodzilla, Void Invader. Finally, Magic Online, which will be offering the special Godzilla Series Monster versions of cards only in Treasure Chests, will not distribute this card.
