Just a rumor, but i've heard from on a couple of the Youtube streams I watch that there are rumors the Steelers are infatuated with Cam Akers.

Akers has a world of potential but just got caught in a fuggin nightmare at FSU... Yes, I’m biased... BUT, if Pittsburgh takes him, he will be my 1.1 in Dynasty Draft...

you'd be waiting for 1.1 value, because they arent just gonna kick conner to the curb...

You have no way of knowing this, but to be clear.... I have a team that is stacked to the point I can afford to wait (Plus, I have Conner already). Two points I’ll make:

1) Steelers’ RB is still an enormous asset to lock up based on their penchant to use a single back.

2). I feel Conner has been VERY fortunate that Samuels or Snell didn’t run away with the job during his time out.. Conner is nowhere near what Bell was, and I don’t think he is irreplaceable.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders.

i do know this, the steelers arent gonna draft a guy and make him a three down back and toss aside james conner, and snell, and samuels......you arent gonna get 1.1 value....not happening

If you truly think conner is fortunate samuels didnt run away with the job.....you need re-evaluate your analysis. I mean that in the kindest way. But samuels has NEVER been a RB, not in college, not in the pros, hes a receiving back. The dude has had over 15 carries like 3-4 times in his ENTIRE COLLEGE AND PRO career. But yeah hes gonna take the job. They brough guys off the street and gave them carries over samuels......so your analysis is very flawed. Also snell is not much of a receiver.....Did you happen to see what conner did when healthy? no bell , no, but your whole picture of the steelers backfield is out of whack.

EDIT: in 50 career college games, Jaylen Samuels had over 10 carries in a game ONE TIME, he had 12 carries......

In his pro career he had 3 games with 10 + carries as last man standing for the steelers in 2018. He exploded against the pats for 142 yards on 19 carries, tricking everyone into thinking hes a great runner. He also had a game with 11 carries for 28 yards, and 12 carries for 53 yards....

In 2019 he had 2 games over 10 carries. He had 10 carries for 26 yards. He then had 14 for 29 yards.

In 28 career pro games hes eclipsed 10 carries 5 times....more than college. With 1 anomaly of a game.

The steelers thought so much of samuels that they gave trey edmunds, kerryth white, and benny snell more touches......

I don't think the Steelers have the draft capitol to spend one on a RB, but his point was the Steelers like to use a workhorse, then got distracted by bringing up back ups level RBs. Any mention of Samuels winning the job will always set you off. If the Steelers did actually draft Akers I be on board to draft him in dynasty, but don't see the Steelers doing that.

I agree, theres smoke the steelers are gonna pick a rb.

I agree they use a workhorse, but when i bring that up, every disagrees with me......

My point is the steelers love conner, they love samuels as a receiving back. For whatever reason Tomlin loves snell.

Mike Tomlin ALWAYS has used a lead back. Last year, he showed some that he is willing to go away from that. I just dont see a scenario where they toss all of those guys aside and hand the keys to someone else to use on say 60-70% of the plays.....and divide up the other 30-40% between the remaining three players.........

If your're drafting someone at 1.1 you expect them to be a 3 down stud, and immediate workhorse for your team.

Yes any mention of samuels winning the job will set me off, look at the numbers, it makes ZERO sense. Until someone can show me some rationale why samuels would win the job, i'll continue that stance.....

I think Mike Tomlin always used one workhorse back because he had Leveon. Any coach would've used him as a workhorse.

And, only becuase theres nothing better to do, might as well weigh in on the Steelers RB situation too...

To me, as an outsider of sorts, no attachment to the Steelers, Tomlin, or any of the current RB's, perhaps a slightly different POV?

I would %100 agree with Steelers pride, that given everything as is with the roster makeup, one of the last things they need is another RB, but the rumblings certainly suggest that they're going to, or at the very least, seriously considering the possibility .
I would also %100 agree with him, that no matter who they add, Conners isnt going anywhere. However, should they make the monumental mistake of taking a RB in the first couple rounds, I highly doubt that they'd double down on that mistake, and make it an even bigger mistake by not giving that guy every opportunity to win the job. And with all due respect to Conners, and his amazing story, and substantial talent, he is, without a doubt, a replacement level RB. Perfectly fine, can get the job done, but when someone better comes along, that's what happens, they get replaced.

Then, we've gotta look at Conners history and overall situation, and wether you're a believer in injury prone or not, the bottom line is, he's missed 11 games in 3 years. And, in another agreement with SP, Samuels proved that he's not a true RB, Snell proved he's just a middling body, so when Conners misses time, they do actually need something better. Even if they are committed to Conners as the guy this season, high probability he isnt around for 16 games and it'd be beneficial to have a better option to turn to than Snell and Samuels. So someone needs to get added. And you've also gotta consider his contract, he's up after this year. Steelers are gonna have to decided if they're moving forward with him, or not. And if not, or even if they're just wavering a bit, it makes sense to be scouting a potential replacement.

So, like I mentioned in the very first post of this thread, I think the Steelers are a dark horse to grab one of those bigger RB's, but that I do think it would be a big mistake, as there are more pressing needs. However, should the right guy fall to them, where they think they have value there, there is a need no matter how you slice it, no matter what you think of Conners ability or what makes more sense..the need for another real RB does exist, whether that's to replace Conner next year, or to be a better backup, or to outright take his job this year, and if they make a sizeable investment in whomever that might be, that guy is going to play, Conners or not. If they don't, Conners job is no doubt safe, no one on the roster is a threat, they've proven that. But more than a few rookies are, and at least a couple FA's would be too.

So while I totally agree they shouldn't, that they don't necessarily need to, I honestly wouldn't be in the least bit surprised. And if that's Cam Akers, and if they spend a top two round pick on him, I sure ain't betting on Conners being the lead back past the Steelers bye.

I like your take and want to suggest a alternative. Trade for Royce Freeman. It would/should cost peanuts and he's on a rookie contract and would really help some of my FF teams as I own him in several leagues.:thumb:

They Denver local boys have definitely discussed it as a good idea. Dunno what the Pittsburgh guys think but..lol

They've also discussed trading him to Detroit...wether its just thier speculation, or perhaps a lil birdie whispered something...they ain't saying.

Saw the blurb about the rookie RB Moss about his knee surgery. Did any other rookies have surgery?

This class has been pretty healthy none of the big 5 Taylor, Swift, Dobbins, Akers, and CEH have missed any significant time because of injury. Out of the 2nd round adp guys Moss has the biggest injury history and both AJ Dillon and Eno benjamin have had some ankle issues.

Amusing you base your ENTIRE tirade here off misunderstanding what I meant by “You had no way of knowing this”, as that was relating to you having no way of knowing how my fantasy team is stacked up, which makes me taking Akers at 1.1 a value pick in how it covers my assets (again, assuming they even take him)...

As for the rest, I’ll wager Conner has one more season (tops) as the Steelers lead back. What is his contract situation? I’ll be interested to see what his salary demands are.

BTW agree that Samuels was meh, but my point is that Conner isn’t so “electrifying” as to be irreplaceable. The Steelers run game is akin to what the Broncos had in the 90s and 2000s... When the offense is clicking, you can put a barstool in at RB and succeed... (Doesn’t mean some barstools aren’t more talented than others, mind you...)

edit: apologies. Responded to you before reading responses after yours... So I am repeating some things and asking questions that have been answered.

Agreed. I apologize that I took things the wrong way. That's my fault. Illl give a little rebuttal later. But my apologies. As Harold said. The samuels thing winds me up. Not the replacing Conner thing. Regardless. My fault.:suds:

no problem... Read my initial comment back and see how you thought I meant it...

MORE background on my fantasy team (because nobody asked :D )... I had Bell, have Conner and just want to be in line for the successor... The Steelers RB slot is fantasy gold IMO, which is why I value it so high, even if it means waiting...

It is gold. Imho. It's just in a weird spot right now. Which is why I dunno that I'd take that guy at 1.1. Dunno that it returns value. Over let's say if swift goes somewhere, even miami(who upgrades the line) and leans on a running game..... I'll update my thoughts here when I get off my phone. @FaCe-LeE-uS input?
