Oh yeah I know I just was making it clear to Robotech

Seems drastic but then again, better than some other ideas

Not enough of a gap to justify that.

OKC and Houston are only 1 game behind 4th place Utah.

Indy and Philly only 2 games back of 4th place Miami

So you're going to eliminate the Sixers, Pacers, Thunder, & Rockets?

Yup. Or we could go top 8 records and forget about conferences. Trying to do a playoffs with 16 teams might just be too much. Reducing the games in a series is worse than reducing the number of teams in the playoff field.

I disagree. NBA in no rush to finish the season. They have no problem ending in late August.

I don’t think necessary either.

Yeah.

say they start playing in early June. Make 1st round best of 5. Eliminate the unnecessary off days and they can wrap by late August or the 1st week of September.

The NBA has handled this really well, imo.

They have put out just enough info to let everyone know that they are working hard and leaving no stone unturned in figuring out how to continue the season.

But not so much that it gives people unrealistic expectations.

They also put out enough info to let us know that they have or will have a plan if the they have to cancel the season.

Enough to let folks know that it's a possibility, but not so much that people think it's imminent.

Then, Adam Silver said that he doesn't expect anything to happen before May 1st.

That stops the incessant..."How soon will the season get underway or be canceled?" questions.

Every politician on the planet could learn a thing or 2 from how they've handled this. lol

As Colin said today (even though I can't stand him), NBA just need to give the all clear to teams to resume practicing for early to mid June. That would give them time for a few exhibition/regular season games then playoffs start in early July. If NBA do what i suggested and play every other day in the playoffs then season would be done before labor day.

Definitely possible.

Quite a few hurdles to clear first though.

I hope things will proceed normally, but I thought that this thread was discussing what should be done if the normal process isn't possible or feasible. I think it's best to reduce the number of teams than reducing the number of games in a series. The result would be more legitimate than shorter series. Keeping out teams 5 to 8 from each conference wouldn't delegitimize the result, IMO. When you think about it, it really is pretty ridiculous that more than half of the NBA makes it to the playoffs.

But that is the system.

And there are a couple teams outside the top 4 capable of beating those contenders.

I agree that the 7 and 8 seeds don’t need to go. But the 5 and 6s are capable of making a lot of noise.

We might get to the point where we have to start making concessions about series length and teams in, but we aren’t there yet.

There's still conflicting info, but things seem to be getting better and most areas seem to have peaked or are close to it.

At the least, it seems to be more good news than bad these days.

The NBA being willing to extend it's season to Labor Day helps which seems to indicate that they are looking to go with a full playoffs with regular length series.
