The Athletic had a recent article on "one hit wonders" defined as guys who stepped up for some brief moment and made a famous play and into Denver Bronco history - when the rest of their careers would have made them forgettable.

The Athletic article - used Tim Tebow as an example when he started a number of games that the Broncos won on almost ridiculous turns of fate and fortune and culminating into the pass to Thomas to beat the Steelers in round one of the playoffs. After that - Timmy has found a forgettable home in baseball.

So I'm asking in this thread for examples of Denver Broncos who made a famous play or had a famous run - and had an otherwise undistinguished career.

Brandon Lloyd with his almost 1500 yard season. The guy never had another season for over 1000 but that one year in 2010 the guy was pretty much the offense.

As for individual games I always think of Tony Carter back in 2012 when the Broncos made that huge comeback against the Chargers. He had a Fumble recovery for a 65-yard TD and then 2 series later he had a big interception that really made the Chargers nervous and started that crazy streak of turnovers in that game. On top of that he had a couple of passes defensed that were huge down the field.

Loyd is a good example.

In fairness to Lloyd he had a decent and long NFL career. But he is famous for being the oldest WR to crack the 1,000 yard mark for the first time. Remember the year before he had something like 6 catches for us?

He was never a big numbers guy other than that year he was in Denver, but he could make some crazy catches...

One year wonders I alway think of Olandis Gary. He played 5 years in the NFL, but his rookie year he went over 1,000 yards then tore his ACL his second year and never really put up numbers after his rookie year.. His OT TD on MNF was a good memory.

I always remember Tony Veland in SB32... He caused the fumble on the KR that Tim McKyer recovered.

Jeremiah Castille stripping Ernest Byner.

LOL- We posted at the same time.

Side not...
I use to chat a lot with his son Simeon who was a starting DB at Bama, played two years in the NFL... His youngest son Caleb who also played at Alabama is now a movie star.

Bennie Fowler might always be remembered as the Bronco who caught the two point conversion in the SB and Peyton Manning's last pass to clinch the SB.

Individual play I'll go 2009 with Brandon Stokley against the Bengals. The offense had done nothing all game and last second heave it up with two Bengals players in the area. They tip it up right into the hands of Stokley who somehow rumbles for 87 yards and the game winning TD. It was his only catch of the game.

I thought of that Stokley play but didn't really file it under "undistinguished"

Didn't Brandon Marshall tip if to him?

Rod Smith's first ever catch was on a hail mary to beat the Redskins... But his career as a Bronco surely isn't based on that one play.

He did have an ok career. Two other seasons with a little over 900 yards so wasn't a complete bust outside of that one season but to all of a sudden be one of the biggest playmakers in the league is something I still can't figure out for his one season. Some of his catches that season are still some of my favorites as a Bronco.

I remember loving Lloyd at Illinois... Loved when Denver signed him and loved it even more when he had that huge season... He got a big contract from Washington I remember. They had signed him and Randle-El the same year and overpaid both.

Here is a good one. Another running back, from Oklahoma/Quentin Griffin. He had that big game of over 140 yards and 2 touchdowns I think against the Colts on the road in night game. Didn't do much though. Had some fumbling problems and Shanahan got rid of him.

I couple of one hit wonders come to mind involving the Broncos but not the Broncos:

Timmy Smith's 204 yards rushing in the Super Bowl for the Redskins over the Broncos.

Tommy Maddox's one season with the Steelers when he led them to 10 wins.

Before anyone says Reuben Droughns, he had a 1,000 yard season after leaving Denver... He actually had 3 really good years.

Q Griffin drove me nuts... He lit up the Colts on SNF, but man that guys just bothered me to all get out.... Fumbling and vision issues.
