I've always appreciated my acre+ front lawn with a 90yd flag in the ground but man am I gonna now.

Our course has just closed to all activities on the property. Fuck.

I have a .30 acre lot...including the house!!! I have zero usable back yard, it's mostly a bank. I want to turn my nice flat side yard into a artificial chipping/putting green.

This is very fluid...City of ATL, and Cobb county have closed golf courses (much higher case count in those two counties) as of today, we have a tee time for tomorrow...but the coming weeks are iffy...our county is still among the lowest case counts in the metro, but also nearly a million people, so the potential is there to spread...if the cases don't flatline here in GA by next week to 10 days, we might be following suit soon.

Maybe they assume some liability if they say yes....Sounds like a free round.

If our home course closes...I'm sure people will walk on and play...it's in a residential neighborhood, but many are members.

Well...around 5:30p yesterday our county shut down all parks and all non essential activities...so no golf today.

My course is open to members only and groups restricted to <3 people.

I drove up to the cart shed this morning and I was the only one there. Grass was really green from all the rain the last couple of weeks. Fairways and greens were recently cut. Rough was a little deep. Wasn’t hitting my drives worth a fuck at first but by hole 5 I started making good swings. Hitting my irons straight but about a club shorter than normal for some reason.

Found my ball in pretty good shape in the middle of the fairway on No. 9. It’s a short par 5 that you can get there in 2 if your hitting it well. Grabbed by 3-wood and made a couple of practice swings when it started sprinkling.

I pulled under some trees to wait it out thinking it might pass soon because the weather report this morning showed a very small chance of rain. About 5 minutes later the light drizzle turned into a full monsoon.

so this tldr post is about the most productive I’ve been at golf all day

Covid19 local golf update.

I guess at the 19th hour the home course sent emails Friday near midnight was the time stamp on mine....they are allowed to be open and the updated social distancing protocol.

I ended up not playing...the cart situation should be 1 person to a cart until you run out and allow walkers after that...simple. They were still trying max out out the head count by still sharing the cart...both bags on and alternate driving the cart every other hole...so you'd have to sanitize the touch areas in the cart every other hole...it was stupid.

The courses here have closed clubhouses and offer to pay on-line or have an outside booth where someone collects green fees. Walking only, no pencils, scorecards or bunker rakes, virtually eliminating anything that requires "touching". Additionally, the cups are raised two inches to eliminate the need to pull the pin and have added 6 minutes in between tee times to promote further distancing but the Governor still shut all of them down.

Yet, it is still acceptable to allow mass gatherings at places like WalMart and Sams Club.

What in the living hell.............................

Course did the same thing here, they still got shut down. There's a lot less people per square foot on a course than there is on the bike trails and in stores.

Courses here in GA have fought it and it looks like they have won...with some caveats....clubhouse is not open to players, green fees must be paid online, but you can order takeout if it can be charged to a member account. Only one player per cart...maintain 6'+ spacing at all times....no loitering after the round, these are the most recent updates.

I played 2 weeks ago when we were more on the front end of this thing...now, the spread is substantial here now. I've just decided to sit at home and wait it out for now. I heard the course tee sheet was full for Sat....I would assume Sunday as well...great weather both days.

We've been fully shut down and it's retarded. Been going over the line to NY and there's a public course that's doing all the precautions. We've played a couple of times and have not in any way did we advance the spread of a virus.

Also, there's a huge difference between my small private rural club and a 36 hole Public Muni just outside of Boston.

It sucks and people desperately want some normalcy. Hiking, biking, fishing, paddling, golfing are all important things to people.

....oh, I just put up a kick ass 15' by 18' net between trees on my back property. It's awesome because I can stand back 50ft and hit my driver and actually see some feedback instead of the swing-thwap that happens so fast when you're 10ft away. There's a big opening to the back yard like a fairway and right in the middle is a big black net that you can barely see to stop and collect the balls.

It was hairy as hell getting 30ft up a ladder...them days are over for me. I was gonna wait for my son to help but I just wanted to get it done so bad yesterday. So I staked the base of the ladder on both sides and secured it. Then I lashed the ladder to the tree so I knew it was perfectly safe. The first attempt to go up the ladder failed. I went up too fast and then made the mistake of looking up at the next 10 rungs to go and freaked. Lol!

The second time I just went one step at a time, stopping for a full 30 seconds on each rung till the anxiety subsided, then the next rung. Eventually I made it and drove the lag bolt and hook. Whew!

It's cool as hell and I'm so psyched 'cause my driver's been plaguing me so I'm glad to be able to work on it. Figured some stuff out already. Beyond the net is just woods so the occasional miss is no big deal and the balls collect in the net. Visually beyond the net the yard looks like a fairway to aim at.

My net project. It's been a real blast and it's really helped my driver swing that's a work in progress but this range is so much fun that I'm using it every day. The netting as you can see is nearly invisible. You just ignore it and aim for the fairway! The ball travels 70ft and by then, it's clear where you've hit it.

Don't get me started. Used to trap till the bleeding heart libs of MA banned traps on a ballot initiative in '96. Fuckers didn't ban mouse traps rat traps and poisons though did they?

Anyway, I have a trout stream and the beavers have been trying to damn up a great length of it for years. If I didn't live here for the past 25yrs, we'd have lost yet another section of stream that our declining brook trout can spawn in. I trapped, snared and shot a number of them over the years. While legal, reported the harvest to the State and we sold the pelts and made hats and such out of them. Since the law, I put them in a garbage bag and throw them away at the dump.

I installed a couple of deceiver tubes a couple of years ago and they seem to be working but I notice the rats working on other sections elsewhere.

So how'd you like the net?

The net is great, i just wondered how many deer ran into the thing and got tangled up. Hopefully enough to fill your freezer.

Net looks awesome...definitely some time was spent putting it up.

Well...it's time to get back on the horse.

Gonna tee it up this weekend. Courses have been open here all along, but I have not played since March 14th....kinda self imposed weekend quarantine....told the wife I would give it til the end of April...it's the end of April.

Courses open again and looking to get serious after at least a year and a half. Miserable play but finally got my 3 wood dialed in again. 220 straight down the fairway the last hole. Moved the ball 2 inches forward in my stance vs what I was and it worked wonders. Also had a lame pop-up with the driver that was at least 150 feet high. Catcher caught half-way between the plate and the pitchers mound. Also rolled a grounder all the way to the fence with a 5 iron.

Knocking the rust off.

Our courses have not closed, but last weekend was my first venture out since mid March...double dipped at that.

Sat...played a course up north...Hampton Golf Village...very hilly front, just looking to make solid contact...46-46...I was pleased even not breaking 90...total mixed bag...had a birdie and 4 pars in a row, but also had two blowup holes on both sides...10 on the front and 8 on the back.

Sun...home course with my regular crew. 42-48...got off to a terrible start...+2 on the first hole, but got on a roll, stayed at +2 all the way the #7, then bogey, dbl, bogey to close +6 for the side....Triple (8) on #14 killed my chance to break 90.

Got a time for Sat. so we shall see this week.
