If I had 20m to give then bitch I might be

Damn and I thought you were independently wealthy.

So for a minute let's pretend you're the GM and keeping on mind what that contract will do to your cap numbers. Are you paying him 20M? apparently the Hawks FO wasn't.

Sure if there was bidding war for him I dont think thats too crazy, but since no one is really interested why go all in? You can get him at a cheaper price.

I also think this a bad year for FA for him, because with the cap spike thats coming up he could probs get 20 mil then.

Last years lack of production also hurt him getting a 20M pay day. No way IMO was he ever getting that kind of coin. He'll be extremely lucky to get an average of 17M.

For sure, but if I’m the Seahawks I think you pay a little extra to get him, because after him who do you have?

Here is something I stole but has merit for my position. Based on last years lack of production and this no way I pay him as the highest DE in the league. Regardless of my cap situation. If I'm one player away from a SB and it's a DE then maybe I give him a one year prove it. Otherwise he's only getting paid by a mid tier to bottom dweller team IMHO.

"Clowney has the 11th-best overall grade among all edge defenders since 2017, including the third-best mark against the run (91.3), but his pass-rush grade of 83.9 ranks just 25th among that same group. Pass-rushers earn massive contracts for their ability to get after the quarterback, but Clowney has always been good, not great, in that department."

So just looking at FAs out there not getting into any sign and trade or the availability of pass rushers in the draft this year here are a couple names that can provide the same or close production at a much lower cost. You may need to move a couple players around or go with a different scheme which I personally like seeing. I hate teams that run the same D year in and year out. Pete has a way of getting the bext out of his D just like BB. That's where taking a risk on a less known or oft injured player who's skills may have started to decline can be rejuvenated without overpaying.

DE Everson Griffin getting a little long in the tooth but as a situational guy could be a steal. Not sure what he'll get for $?

DE Cameron Wake should come at a bargain basement price considering his stats have declined. Still talented as hell and requires teams to plan for him as a disrupter. A change of scenery in a PC defense could get those last few gallons out of his tank.

Timmy Jerringan would require retooling the D. Not going to make any pro bowls but you have to weigh the cost verse the production?

Pernell McPhee can he stay off the trainers table long enough to make an impact? Big risk with a potential big reward.

Vinny Curry I would seriously take a look at. I'm hoping NE does if they can find some cap space?

Zeke Ansah was underwhelming to say the least last year. Does PC bring him back on a prove it deal?

Those are just a handful of the DEs out there that PFF has graded in their top 40 all players available. I don't think they've signed with anyone yet?

Though I didn't discuss the draft Seattle has that option as well.
