Or so say opposing scouts:

Opposing Scouts Think Bears Will Target 3 Key Positions Early in Draft

To me, the universal position, pretty much agreed by all, including a vast majority of Bears fans, is the OL. After that, it kinds breaks up into other positional wishes, such as QB, EDGE, TE, DB, and IL - even a few nods to another RB. We all know Pace goes with the BPA, so it's tough to judge which positions will make up those picks. As with all pre-drafts, it's hard to think of any other way than our needs by position.

I have been waffling with my second choice (OL being first) between TE, DB, and until the recent articles coming out, EDGE. I thought the Bears were giving up on Floyd, which to me would then make EDGE a natural spot for the other Round 2 pick. But lately it seems they're going to give him another shot. Of course it depends on what Pace will do in free agency. I still want the Bears to start the '20 season with a dependable, pass catching TE. I don't trust our current batch whatsoever. All things being equal, I'd prefer that he finds one via FA. But if not, then that would likely be my second pick of Rd 2. I'm of the firm belief that a quality TE is a QB's BFF.

I'm just going to forget about QB for a second. Since that's a very touchy topic and lord knows it gets covered enough with this team. We all have given our thoughts on the QB position 100x over.

I think O-line is the most glaring need. TE and a legitimate edge rusher opposite of Mack aren't far behind, though.

HHCD and Prince being jettisoned leave two spots vacated in the secondary. I think we really love Tre Roberson to take over at CB opposite of Fuller. But I also wouldn't be surprised to see a vet CB addition and/or a mid-round pick.

Deon Bush has been quite good as a backup safety... but we have all seen the movie before where that guy fails when pressed into a full-time role. To me, SS is an interesting issue. I think it's a position that we will wind-up nickel/diming simply because of the other needs being greater. I hope it doesn't burn us.

With TE, I just have this feeling that Pace still wants to trot out Burton and that he may be forced to. We can't cut him. It's not a good situation. Perhaps he's healthy and can return to his 2018 form pre-injury. He was better than people make it out to be.

So, Hooper or Henry? I don't think so. I could see a guy like Eric Ebron brought in and we cut bitch-boy Shaheen in camp.

There was a report on rotoworld that just popped up that "the feeling" at the combine is that the Bears are going to grab a vet QB that can push Trubisky. To me, that screams of a guy like Andy Dalton. We already know Pace has come out in defense of Trubisky for better or worse but he would be an idiot to not have a better backup plan in place.

OL is probably because we have so little in the hopper. I think Pace isn't going to attack tight end too hard and just hope Burton can come back healthy. He's already costing $9 mil or so so it's hard to invest a whole lot more capital there. If he does and skimps in other places and Burton is healthy, then we've got a glut there. Burton is at least solid when he's healthy so it might be worth the risk.

Yea, i wouldn't be upset with Bush out there starting and bringing in a guy to back him up or drafting to fill from behind. I wonder if we're going to try to bring back Skrine, and i remember Duke Shelley received a lot of praise last training camp but rode the bench behind Skrine so we might have something there. One more veteran CB would quell the nerves a little bit, even if he's not a greater starter.

According to the Sun-Times (Jason Lieser), the Bears are going to pursue Austin Hooper. That'd cut heavily into our cap space to be able to address other areas like a veteran QB. But if that's the case, that shows that the FO has lost all confidence in Trey Burton being the player they thought they were getting.

i was ecstatic when Burton came here..........he started out on fire and just fizzled out after a few injuries......I thought it was wierd that he didnt play vs his former team in the playoffs two seasons ago...........Didnt even realize he was injured.
But if he could return to form,te is a done deal.........key word "if".

I read somewheres where Hooper wants up to 12 mill a season.......too damn much for us........Hunter would be cheaper, but Ebron, thats more economical and wouldnt be a bad choice..........

Pace has been pretty good with smoke screens too so you never know.

Some of the names I'm seeing at QB irritate the shit out of me. Fuck Mariota, and fuck Dalton. Hard pass.

Oh, and Trey Burton's biggest problem seems to be between his ears, IMO. He has a wealth of talent, but just seems to lack heart.

I want to upgrade the position....but I'm not a fan of breaking the bank to do it.

If Hooper is a top 10 TE, you've got to pay for a guy like that.

I personally hate signing guys to big money deals through free agency. If a guy is worth that much, his team wouldn't let him go, pretty plain and simple. Any free agent that hits the market is generally doing so for a reason. It could be age, temperament, ability and so on. It's not to say that these guys aren't good but they're usually getting more money than they're really worth.

I'd prefer our free agent money pretty much always be spent on stop gap guys. Vets or somewhat flawed players that fit what you need and don't cost too much. Then you really build your talent through drafting well and stay in position to sign the true difference makers you drafted when necessary. Guys like Kyle Fuller, Eddie Goldman, Eddie Jackson, Roquan Smith (eventually) and so on.

All that said, Hooper is a young guy who's quite good. I wouldn't be upset if we signed him, it's just that expecting to always be able to spend big money on free agents is a losing strategy over the long haul. We saw that with Angelo who always used free agency to try to patch the holes left by drafting poorly. Pace has been quite good at the draft so i'd just prefer he be careful with big money free agent splashes.

As long as he gives away his 1st rounder, that is. :sigh:

Yep. His first-rounders have been his blemish. Floyd, Trubisky and White. Hit a homerun with Smith though at least and grabbed Mack with another.

Yeah, I like Hooper. IMO, he's as good or better than Hunter Henry while actually staying healthy. Which Henry struggles with.

It's just that I really think he's going to get paid. I wonder what the price tag would be.

Floyd is so disappointing to me. He was a legitimate DROY candidate before he got hurt in 2016. Since then, he's just been a "meh" player.

I do wonder what may have been with White if a chain reaction of career altering injuries didn't kick-off immediately after us drafting him.

I think Hooper is WAY better than Henry.

The price tag is rumored to be pretty steep. With that said, there are rumors milling around Halas Hall, that the Bears are ready to go all-in on him.

This really highlights what a brittle bitch Burton is. For all intents and purposes, he was a brilliant sign, an unrecognized talent waiting to explode, but somewhere along the line he caught the ghey er some shit?:noidea:

If Hooper is our "U" TE. Then, maybe Burton can contribute with lesser snaps as the "Z" TE. (I think that's the verbage we use - but don't quote me lol)

I really think Teddy would be a good fit for the bears to push tur-INTs-ky or be suitable back up

I would be completely ok with this at the right price.

No need to get crazy throwing money at him.
