Makes sense with how crowded the organization is at 3B. I hope we are starting to shift guys around well before they come up here when it is likely to be needed.

I can’t believe how stupid people are on LSB.

the consensus on there is that signing Odor was a good move when they did and they always defend odor when people attack him on there.

we’re talking about the same guy who has been statistically the worst regular player in MLB 2x in the last 3 years?

I wish odor wouldn’t be on a different team. I dislike him more than I ever disliked mitch.
You continue to impress me with your stupidity. That was not the consensus on LSB at all.

The consensus was that buying out a young players arbitration years has a greater than a 50% chance to work out in favor of the team. If you have a greater than 50% chance of winning a coin flip, you’d probably bet a decent amount of money on that coin flip. Or would be the moron complaining about 4 lost coin flips even though you won the other 6?

Teams are still aggressively pursuing that strategy. MLB Teams Reportedly Pursuing Pre-Arb Extension Blitz

That was my take on a general basis in conjunction with offering contracts. I do think at some point it is prudent to take the loss. Just not now

I wonder if the success teams had in arbitration hearings this year will have any effect on that tactic?

Very true, had we waited and he blown up in a good way, he'd be calling them stupid for not extending when he was cheaper

Yeah, consistency is needed. That is why I never complained about Elvis underperforming. I was all for his extension, so I never felt like I had the right to complain.

Well overall, Elvis is outperforming his contract so far, last year and his injury plagued year 2 years ago are the only years he fell well short of expected value, so hopefully he gets it back on track

I mean most people know we aren't really going to be that competitive this year, so why isn't anyone willing to see if Santana can get better in CF with regular playing time, like DDJ did once upon a time?

For the same reason why can't Solak and Guzman do the same? Perfect time to see what these young players have to offer. Without regular time they will never be as good as they might have been.

No matter where the blame belongs, it is ownership that needs to be replaced. They are either to blame, or they are allowing the one to blame to continue to be employed by the club. New ownership can get the present owners and JD in a meeting together and find out who made which decisions and take action if necessary. Most likely a clean sweep would be made.
Back when the Rangers were winning and on top of the world in 2010 and 2011, I had close friends both on the team and working in the clubhouse. I was fortunate enough to get to spend some time with the players and their families during those years, and even more fortunate to hear insider talk and gossip when it was just the wives or families talking to one another.

I’ll never forget that Davis and Simpson were universally disliked by the players’ families, and I heard more negatives about those guys than I can even remember. The most common refrain I heard, though, was that they were all about the money/greed and cared nothing about their players. One wife even said (out loud) that “the only reason they’re happy we’re in the playoffs is because of the extra ticket sales” (insinuating they cared nothing at all about winning the World Series). And they said these things many times with their husbands standing right next to them after the game in the player’s garage, so it wasn’t just busybody gossip.

At the time, I couldn’t understand where they were coming from, because as an outsider looking in, all I saw was a happy and successful team with a new ownership group seemingly committed to winning. I should have put more stock in what they were saying at the time, because what they all unanimously said back then seems very true today. I have zero connections to the team now, as none of my friends are with the team anymore. But I wish they were because I’d love to hear an insider’s take today on ownership.
