Homestead wasn’t a bad place to watch a race but it was a nightmare trying to get out of there and don’t remember there being a lot going on during the day before the race started either. To be fair, that was around 12 years ago so hopefully they’ve gotten better with that over time.

It used to sell out every race for two races every year. I was at the 9 and 10 years old, but I was at the 2000 and 2001 Spring races, and it was packed. I'd still rate them as the two coolest races I've been to as well. Seats right at the finish line and the first year, Earnhardt beats Bobby Labonte by inches, and the next Kevin Harvick gets his first ever win over Jeff Gordon by fewer inches.

Was an Earnhardt fan as a kid, been a Kevin Harvick fan from day one.

As for Homestead, it's pretty decent on tv. Me and my grandpa went down for the race a few years ago, but we had to leave right before the race started and drive 13 hours back home due to a family emergency, so I don't have the fondest memories, and it was also one of the lamer campground experiences too. At Talladega you have a bunch of college girls showing their tits. At Homestead, it seemed like everyone was in bed by 9.

Talladega was another track I never got around to but for the reason you mentioned was probably worth a good portion of the ticket. I almost went to Pocono one year but my buddy had something come up so we didn’t go. Luckily I was able to sell my tickets for face value.

Bristol's spring race is in the same boat as Atlanta, it's always raining, the night race doesn't sell out, but it seats 150,000, so even at half capacity, there's still more people there than a lot of tracks at full capacity(Darlington usually sells out, but only seats like 70k). I used to go to the night race every year, and it was something to see fully packed, but part of the problem is they messed up the racing when they tried to change the bankings, and Bristol is a long ways off the interstate and you're literally camping in people's front yards(there's no campground).

Talladega has a free campground that's huge, and if you have a ticket, you're good to go. It gets pretty wild there, and IMO, the fact that they don't gouge you at the campground is a big reason why Talladega is one of the few tracks that consistently sells out.

I've been hearing rumors that NASCAR is working towards taking some steps in the right direction.

They're currently in intense negotiations with the city of Nashville to bring back the Nashville Fairgrounds race, and they're also discussion renovating and bringing back North Wilkesboro.

NW would probably be at least a couple years down the road. The racing surface would have to be torn up and completely replaced, and all of the seating areas would have to be redone, and from what I've heard, the facilities were way out of date back in the 90's.

But I'd love to get back to a more short track dominated schedule. How many 1.5 mile tracks do we need on the schedule?
