My bad. Meant to type best players, as in the top 6 all choosing to go elsewhere.

Weren't you the one bragging about Iowa's Practice facilities being 10 times nicer than Minnesota's, and SO much bigger, too? lol

This is a different era of CFB. Coaches don't stay put (for the most part) at one school these days. Hey for you & all the other Gopher fans out there I hope he never leaves. But I just think the chances are slim of that happening.

Realistically, he will leave. He'll either accomplish his goal here, helping UMn to a B1G Conf Title or maybe even a Natl Title, proving a coach CAN win here, and then he can leave knowing we'll be able to bring in a great replacement, and he'll move on to another challenge, another school willing to pay very well to have him transform their culture like he did here. But UMn will pay him VERY WELL to stay, as long as he keeps them winning and keeps their noses clean and scandal free. So he may end up staying a very long time. Why not? Minnesota is a great place to live, esp if you have lots of money and are everyone's favorite person.

OR... or he'll fail here, and move elsewhere blaming UMn for his failure.

I'm sure you know all this stuff. But they have gotten better each year since Fleck arrived. With 9 returning starters I see no reason for some kinda big dropoff. And I hope your team kicks the shit outta meeeechegan on 10/17.

Realistically, he leaves Minnesota without accomplishing any of that due to the piss poor fan support, and goes somewhere sooner, rather than later.

Minnesota goes from being above average back to mediocre.

Well, realistically, we won some of last year's games by pulling off some miraculous pass plays winning by thin margins. But most of those games were early in the season. Later in the season we beat PSU and Auburn. Next year our defense may allow more scoring against us, but I'm thinking our offense will score more points and keep the opposing team's defenses on the field for very long periods of time, and keeping our defense off the field, hence wearing down their defenses and allowing ours to stay fresh late into games.

And technically we only return 9 of 11 starters, but Ibrahim, the star RB of the bowl game and the starting RB throughout 2018 doesn't count so it's like bringing back 10 of the 11. And not only do we bring back the entire Offensive line, but all of the backups, too. So we have depth. And our backup QB wasn't too bad before he got injured part way through 2018, and that 9 of 11, also does not count our Wildcat QB who returns as well.

UMn could literally be bringing back the best offense in the country? And not just when it comes to scoring. Fleck seems to understand just how important it is to control the time of possession. Another reason why their depth will come into play. They'll be able to rotate offensive players in to keep them fresh as well.

Oh shit wasn't expecting such a long comment. I'm a bit unsober right now & have cottonmouth. So my bad. Good breakdown though.

You think the Gophers will be the preseason favorite to win the West? I caught as many Minnesota games as possible last year because of Antoine Winfield, Jr. Watched his father play in HS (actually we went to the same HS) & at Ohio State obviously. I hope Jr. has a helluva career.

And how many days until the season kicks off? I'm already ready for it.

lol, unsober is cool.

I'm ready for it, too. lol Don't think the Gophers will be the preseason favorites though, as the pundits just are not yet used to UMn being good yet, will need another year or two before they start figuring out just how legit Fleck is. I'm guessing they will be pegged as the #2 or #3 pick in the West by most prognosticators with a select few picking the Gophers, with all prognosticators acknowledging just how tight the race to win the West will be between UW, UMn & Iowa. Nebraska will be picked as their darkhorse, and NW will be predicted to be the most improved from 2019 to 2020. But neither Purdue or Illinois will like being ignored, so no game vs a West Division team should be taken for granted.

LOL @fredsdeadfriend claiming that Minnesota is getting their targets in recruiting.

#1 player in Minnesota - offered by UMinn - went to Wisconsin
#2 player in Minnesota - offered by UMinn - went to Michigan St
#3 player in Minnesota - offered by UMinn - went to Wisconsin
#4 player in Minnesota - offered by UMinn - went to Iowa State

Minnesota is missing on the top players in the state.

I'm sure we'll survive, lol. We don't want anyone coming here that doesn't want to be here. Fleck is the first to acknowledge that what he has going on here at Minnesota is not for everyone.

Of course the top recruits don't WANT to be in Minnesota. That's what we've been telling you for months...and fulfills the title of this thread.

With Taylor moving on from Wisconsin I think the Gophers will be preseason favorites. Ended last season on a high note with that Auburn win. Was thinking Iowa. Until I looked at their schedule. Road game at Minnesota, Ohio State & Penn St. And it's always good to have 9 starters returning. Experience is everything for programs that don't reload year after year.

KIDS wanting to leave their home states and go out and see the world is not a new thing.

Btw, looking at the 2020 state of Oregon top recruits, NONE of them are committed to Oregon, lol. So who are you to say anything???

And we play Iowa early, which should favor us as they will be breaking in a new QB, or at least I hope, lol. And not playing Wisconsin in a snow storm should also help us as well, as we play them fairly early compared to the past. And we get Michigan at home. As long as road games vs Nebraska or Illinois don't sneak up on us.

The difference is that Oregon gets a lot of the top kids out of California. The top prospect in Oregon was only 3 stars.

2019 Oregon only got ONE instate player, at least of the ones ranked top ten.
