No fuckin way...

Yeah, just confirmed, hoax

Wait.

You mean to tell me that this video of a helicopter crashing under clear skies, with folks speaking Farsi in the background, isn’t the fog-shrouded helicopter crash that took Kobe Bryant’s life in Southern California?

consider my mind blown.

When an aircraft is flying VFR(visual flight rules) or SVFR(special visual flight rules) it is 100% the pilots responsibility to avoid flying into clouds and to maintain visual contact with the ground. The pilot is flying VFR or SVFR because he wishes to, due to the weather conditions he is seeing out his window.
And as I said before, it is very easy for a helicopter(as opposed to a fixed wing aircraft) to avoid clouds it can stop, reverse, hover, or go straight up r straight down.
More than likely, the pilot recklessly flew into clouds or fog(same thing really), became disoriented(vertigo) and operated the aircraft wildly(rapid ascent and descent).
The NTSB will eventually name a cause but I can say this...when an aircraft on a VFR or SVFR clearance flies into a mountain, the main cause cannot be air traffic controller error.

He was trying to stay below the clouds. Problem was as he did so the terrain was rising. As he came closer to the mountains the fog got worst and thus visibility became less. It's not the cloud cover that was the problem. It was the fog.

You think having flied through that area thousands/millions of times he would know the terrain was by now. Pretty sure this was the same pilot he had for years and years, right?

"I'm Not Ready but here I go. Man I sitting here trying to write something for this post but every time I try I begin crying again just thinking about you, niece Gigi and the friendship/bond/brotherhood we had! I literally just heard your voice Sunday morning before I left Philly to head back to LA. Didn't think for one bit in a million years that would be the last conversation we'd have. WTF!! I'm heartbroken and devastated my brother!! Man I love you big bro. My heart goes to Vanessa and the kids. I promise you I'll continue your legacy man! You mean so much to us all here especially #LakerNation and it's my responsibility to put this shit on my back and keep it going!! Please give me the strength from the heavens above and watch over me! I got US here! There's so much more I want to say but just can't right now because I can't get through it! Until we meet again my brother!! #Mamba4Life #Gigi4Life"

LeBron, of course, makes it about himself. Big surprise.

"I got US"

"It's my responsibility"

"I'll continue your legacy"

please excuse me while I throw up.

Go away jackass. You've had an issue with LeBron ever since he left the Cavs for a second time. And you're the dummy that said his legacy is now ruined because he didn't get the Lakers into the playoffs last year.

Simply awful. Can only hope she has more strong family and friends around her to help her through this.
Guessing and hoping Kobe’s family will help her out

i wonder what Kyrie's eventual reaction will be. Kobe singled Kyrie out as his biggest "mentee" in the league and Kyrie, on many many occasions, stressed just how important Kobe was to him.

No one has heard anything from Kyrie since he walked out of the stadium upon hearing the awful news on Sunday.

I will be interested to see his reaction when it does finally come.

this is only pseudo-related but I read the Malcolm Gladwell book, Outliers, a few years ago. He does a bunch of interesting studies/examinations in the book from why Canadiens make the best hockey players to rice paddy production to the 10,000 rule.

One of the more interesting examinations dealt with how pilots in certain asian countries had accident rates far higher than accident rates in the US.

The cause was interesting and was eventually corrected. It had to do with power-distance/cultural habits.

In the US- the co-pilot was much more likely to speak up if he saw the pilot screwing up. The co-pilot would have very little reservation of saying "hey asshole- you are going to get us all killed". In the asian countries, where there is more reverence for your elders and superiors, the co-pilots were much less likely to speak up when they noticed the pilot doing something wrong.

They retrained the pilots and taught them that they had to speak up and the accident rates leveled off and became more consistent.

NOt that it is a perfect comparison, but i am sure there was plenty of pressure on this pilot to perform his job and to fly even if he felt that it was not the best thing to do. I think its clear that if Sunday was a clear day in southern California, and not incredibly foggy, Kobe is still with us. I read former Sikorsky pilots say that it is HIGHLY HIGHLY unlikely that the twin engine aircraft failed catastrophically and was the main cause of the crash.
