I know by this time we're all numb to it, but just a reminder that this is the President of the United States...

What the fuck? We’re on the honour system with this?

If you have no reason to believe the woman has anything but good intentions, why not?

It seems like it's better to have her isolated in her home than to have her a) taking up a hospital bed (or possibly even an entire wing or isolation unit if she goes to a hospital that has one) she may not need, b) potentially putting valuable healthcare workers at risk and c) potentially putting other patients at risk.

Please understand that I'm making no commentary whatsoever on the Canadian healthcare system (glass houses and such...) when I say, the resources for treating something like this - or any type of public health emergency - are so ridiculously strained as it is. There's no reason to add unnecessary burden.

Hell, you could post a cop car outside the woman's house 24/7 to make sure she doesn't leave for a small fraction of a) risk and b) cost.

Toronto area hospitals created additional isolation wards and new handling procedures after 2003 for this very reason. Public health completely botched the response to SARS and 30 people died as a result.

Just trusting someone to stay home and not go out & interact with anybody because it "seems milder" is nuts, especially when we're still in the early stages of an outbreak and aren't 100% certain of how it spreads, how easily it spreads or how long it can spread after a person appears to have recovered from its initial symptoms.

Wait, you can do that? You can just go out and fix a problem when you uncover things that could have gone better?

"You don't know who is sick," she said. "So for us, we're very ... scared."

we don't know who is sick, who has been exposed, so bring us (who may or may not be sick or exposed, and by the way aren't Canadian citizens) to Canada to potentially start the infection in Coquitlam!

This is the part that is mindnumbing to me because there is no guarantee she will even tell others she is affected. With that matter how did she travel to and from the hospital (in her own car? via Uber?). That movement back home could have infected others unknowingly.

I'm honestly not sure whether this is true nor not. It might be but I couldn't find anything related specifically to this online.

The only cut I think Ford proposed last year in healthcare was $200 mil and that was related to merging regional hospital networks continuing something that the Liberals had started.

Considering every burp the guy makes is treated as him personally murdering and stabbing a room full of puppies and newborns (example: the original tweet blaming him for a virus from China winding up through federal customs and in a Toronto hospital lol) I'm guessing if he had done something like this it would've been front page news for a month.
