Soooo, it was better coaching that got OSU to be competitive against Clemson, after being blown out by them a few years earlier?

Going out on a limb and saying Urban Meyer is light years better than Ryan Day as a coach, but what Ryan Day has this year was a truly elite QB.
That's truly stupid to say. Day was the architect of JT Barrett's turnaround in 2017, and he was pivotal in the development of Dwayne Haskins, OSU's first QB to be taken in the first round in decades. He's lacking in experience in comparison to Urban, but to say he's "light years" worse than Urban is powerfully ignorant. He's proven that he knows how to coach a winning team, something Harbaugh still has yet to do.

Don't change the subject. You guys have had high end recruits for years, but your coach is horrible. Plain and simple. Keep the excuses coming though.

It is powerfully ignorant to even attempt to say Day is in the same stratosphere as one of the best CFB coaches of all time.
I know you are an admitted homer, but that is taking it to another level.:L

OSU faces one team all year that came close to their talent level......they lost.

Day has been a HC one year. He inherited a roster filled with NFL talent, then had the 3rd highest rated QB recruit in the history of CFB transfer in. Only Vince Young and Trevor Lawrence were rated higher.

Has Harbaugh underachieved?!? Absolutely. Has UM recruited anywhere near the level of OSU?!? No. Even the year UM finished with the top class in the B1G — it was only due to the size. OSU still had the higher rated recruits. Hell — OSU has more 5 stars recruits than the rest of the B1G COMBINED.

What Harbaugh hasn’t done is find an elite QB to run the offense. Patterson was a 5* guy, but as anyone with two eyes can see — his struggle is throwing anything downfield. He is great with short to intermediate routes. Have him make a throw over 15 yards and he struggled. Against Bama — he had WR’s open all day and continually overthrew them. You can’t coach a player all day, but you can’t make the throws for them.

You're the one who tried comparing the two. I know michigan fans are desperate to rip on Day, but he's a phenomenal coach. Of course he's not on Meyer's level yet, but to say he's "light years" behind him is just stupid.

OSU faces on team all year that came close to their level, outplayed them but had bad breaks and officiating go against them and barely lost in the final minute. Not sure how you're trying to spin that, but ok.

Know who wasn't the 3rd highest rated QB recruit ever? JT Barrett. Know who else wasn't? Dwayne Haskins. However, look what Day did for both of them when they played under him. Stop being ignorant.

Saying Harbaugh hasn't "found an elite QB" is bullshit. He's had multiple guys that were on Haskins' and Barrett's levels as recruits, he's just been a failure at developing them. Which has been my point this whole time.

Im not desperate to rip Day. I’ve been nothing but complementary to OSU. Anyone saying he is in the same stratosphere as Meyer is asinine though.

Say Fields doesn’t transfer in and he was stuck with Martell, who couldn’t win the job at Miami. Are you saying Day wouldn’t be a really good coach if OSU has lost multiple games and not made the CFP, which would have happened with Martell?!? Or are you saying Martell would have done the same thing at OSU as Fields, because of Day?!? If it is the latter, you may be the biggest homer on these boards.

And getting top recruits and having them pan out are two different things. If recruiting were an exact science, you’d see way more parody in CFB. The elite teams are elite because of two things:
1. They sign way more elite recruits than everyone else, thus if they miss on some, they have others being them.

2. They have an elite QB and elite skill position players.

Patterson is as close to ‘an elite QB’ UM has had. Unfortunately, in 4 years, he had 4 different offensive coordinators, running 4 different schemes. His issue was accuracy on deep balls. You can try and coach up any QB you want, but you can’t teach arm strength and some QBs have the touch on deep balls and some don’t. Patterson didn’t.

Yeah no. All the talent in the world means exactly jack shit in a program with no discipline, a cancerous team culture, and a total moron at head coach. Best they can hope for is maybe scoring a few points in another loss to a G5 school in a 3rd tier bowl game.

If Day had Martell, I think OSU goes 10-2 or 11-1 in the regular season at worst. I'm not saying Martell was on Fields' level or that he would've been as good, but I think he would've been way better for Ohio State under Day than at Miami dealing with that catastrophe. We wouldn't have been the power we were, but you're completely forgetting the fact that we had a dominant defense and JK Dobbins was arguably the best RB in the nation.

Look at the national titles that were won in the last decade. Guys like Cardale Jones, Greg McElroy, AJ McCarron, and Jake Coker won national titles. Auburn came right down to the wire of winning one with Nick Marshall, who was a converted cornerback. You don't have to have an elite QB to win a title. You have to have good coaches who recruit well and develop players. michigan isn't bringing in tons of 5* players, but they're bringing in better recruits than probably 95% of the rest of the country. The fact that you can't even win the division, let alone a conference or national title is on your coaches. You're just making excuses at this point for a mediocre coach.

Every guy you mentioned McCarron, McElroy, Coker — they played for ONLY team who could win national titles without an elite QB. Why? Because they had the #1 recruiting class for a decade straight and they had a stable of 5 star RB’s, an OL filled with elite talent and a defense filled with NFL talent. In the last decade — they had over 20 more players drafted than any other team. They have almost twice as many 1st round NFL picks than any other team. THAT is why they can get away without an elite QB:lol:

As far as talking Day and OSU regarding Martell. I’m done with the convo. You are impossible to talk to about OSU. I’m starting to think you are one of those fans who’d argue OSU could beat the Browns, so I will just ok on your Martell comments

Sorry you can't cope with the fact that Day is extremely good at developing QBs. I said Martell wouldn't have been as good as Fields. However, we would've seen a better player than what he was at Miami. Not sure how you can argue that. He didn't play much at OSU, but he was in the system for two years working with Day, so clearly that would've made an impact. He also would've had an elite OL and arguably the top RB in the nation along with an amazing group of pass-catchers. You're being an idiot to think otherwise.

What's your reasoning for OSU to win it all with a 3rd string QB? The majority of the stars of that team for 4* or lower as recruits. It's like you can't come to grasps with the fact that OSU is simply better than michigan at developing players and that's why we've been so much better over the years.

And you can't beat OSU because we're better at developing our players. Simple as that.

Here's some insider info from the world of college football - when you prove that you can develop players at an elite level, then elite level recruits want to come and play for you.

We can’t beat OSU because you have out recruited UM for a decade plus. The fact you don’t seem to grasp that is asinine.

I now understand completely why you are on the short list of posters on the board when they mention the biggest homers.

Here is some insider info from the World of CFB — OSU has 80% blue chip recruits on their roster. PSU and UM are the next closest at 55-60%. After that, it drops down to the 30% range, with a bunch of teams at the 10% and under.

The fact this needs to be explained is ridiculous. What made OSU great this year wasn’t Ryan Day inventing the wheel and ‘developing talent’ — he inherited a roster filled with NFL talent and had Justin Fields fall into his lap, because you didn’t have a QB and he just so happened to have the same QB COACH as Haskins. When I say QB coach — I don’t mean Ryan Day. I mean the guy the family pays to train their sons — Quincy Avery.

Day is a very good coach, but take your blinders off and let him coach for more than a year before putting him on a pedestal.

I will let you in on another insider fact about CFB. Elite recruits want to play with other elite recruits. The select few teams who are on the elite level, ALL have one thing in common. They are located in a talent rich recruiting area. If you moved Ryan Day to any other school in the B1G — he isn’t having a season like he did last year because he won’t have anywhere near the talent OSU had

How ironic. Oh I can be a homer sometimes, but I've lost count of the amount of times you've been called out for just being a dumbass. This would be just another one of those instances.

This wasn't about me being a homer. This was about your ignorance of how programs succeed. You just basically said all you need are elite recruits and that means you are going to be elite. How short-sighted.
