If anything even close to "big" happened from here until opening day - I would crap my pants in surprise.

The only big news will be when we send Madrigal and Kopech to Charlotte for control purposes. Using the excuse that Kopech needs to be eased in (or re-figure some things out if he struggles in ST) and Madrigal "hasn't checked all the boxes in the minors". Which the league desperately has to do something about.

One possibility of Kopech not being overused early on, yet still making the roster out of ST is to open the season with him in the pen. Not sure that's the route the Sox would prefer taking, but it is an option if there is a concern about overworking him right out of the gate.

As for the stupid service time matter to which you alluded, I couldn't agree more, and I'm willing to bet any amount of internet money that this might very well be the chief sticking point in the upcoming contract talks with the players union. They simply have to do something about that rule.

Kopech was commenting about how he was going to be more "cautious" about his velocity recently. We'll see what the hell that means. Step it up long hair....Throw some f*cking 'tussin on it and let's go.

It's now step it up short hair - he just had his mop chopped off for charity.

I think the Sox can either bring Kopech to the big leagues and start him off as a reliever, or they can send him to Charlotte for a once a week type start for 4-6 weeks. I think in the long run most guys have more endurance after TJ surgery than the ones waiting to have it for the first time. If he shows up with good control of his pitches - I expect him to stick in the bigs.

Agreed. I still think the key factor is how much work they give him in ST. I don't have a hard number of innings he must pitch that would determine whether he breaks camp with the Sox or heads to Charlotte for additional work. I'm suspecting tho that if the the team is bent on him being a starter and starter only, it likely means he'll begin the season in AAA. If they're willing to ease him into that role by his opening the season in the pen, then I think he heads north with the club when camp breaks. In other words, I don't have a clue about his status.

A few 'State of the Sox' talking points from Hahn in late January. Nothing mind blowing or particularly revealing, but makes for a generally decent read. Until ST actually starts, this is about as exciting as it gets, as in not very.

can always count on one fact. when there's absolutely nothing to say .... you'll be the one saying it. :)

how can i help it when you're just about every other post here?
Well, I actually have a suggestion. There's a company called 23andMe. They do genetic testing like a number of other such companies, but one thing they do that's unique is they test to see if a person carries the Alzheimer's gene. If the person has it, he or she is more likely to develop some form of dementia, including Alzheimer's, than those whose results don't reveal such. I really believe you need to take the test. Some of the early signs of dementia are obsessive, repetitive behavior and a steady increase in angry, combative moods. If you catch it early enough, there may be something your doctor can do to help stave it off.

Funny thing is before science and medicine revealed the scale and extensiveness of dementia, back in the old days someone like you would have been aptly defined as an old curmudgeon. How times have changed.
