Everyone gets a chance IMO. I'll reserve judgement until next season.

How good is high school football in Phoenix? If this was a Georgia or Florida kid I would have more comfort in evaluating. For example the football I’ve seen in NC is definitely subpar to what I used to see in the top divisions in Alabama.

Not all things are equal.

Ask your quarterback Bo Nix. He's from Arizona.

He averaged over 11 yards a completion, so it isn’t as if he was throwing dump offs.
He also completed 69% his last year at Alabama and averaged over 10 yards per completion.

So while he may not have a rocket arm — he has shown he knows where to go with the ball and he is accurate.

he was the same QB at OU as he was at Bama. The scheme just covered up his weaknesses. The NFL draft will agree with me. Utah QB is another 73% completion percentage and 10.3 per attempt. Shut down the running game and he is mediocre at best in the pocket trying to make decisions.

We had this same discussion 2 years ago, and you are 100% correct. Hurts has the heart of a champion and will become a GREAT coach in the future. He just isn’t an NFL quarterback.

I'd say Arizona is looking good as of late.

kid is a beast. He was a great player, but he required a lot around him to hit his ceiling. From everything I have seen and heard he is a great kid and teammate. So while I don’t think he is a NFL guy or even a great college passer (passer and player are different), I still ave respect for him

some of the best teams in Texas aren’t traditionally loaded with D1 talent (Westlake/Katy/Lake Travis). Some of the best programs in the nation are a result of the organization that starts in 3rd/4th grade and goes through the HS. I think the “played against X competition” is generally BS. A bad ass athlete is a bad ass athlete

Not really when you take their population into account and the fact that Alabama produces 22. Then you have to factor in how many schools, divisions and how these kids are spread out. You could have an academy type school that has 5 of those on the same team but play most of their games out of state.

I'm not doubting the kid but I'm not that familiar with kids from Arizona making a big splash in college either.

Florida is the best state for talent, Georgia is the best per capita.

I think we all knew that though

never seen Georgia close to the best per capita. Louisiana and Mississippi are usually best per capita, Unless you include the American Samoa.. that is for NFL talent, so it is over time. Could be different this 1 singular year. Looks like DC had a ridiculous year.

There was a study a few years ago that showed Georgia had the most d1 offers per capita in the country. I’ll find it when I get to a computer.

American Samoa probably is, but I was just using states

Granted — I think any solid QB can put up big numbers in Oklahoma’s offense. But OU has had some special QB’s the last few years.

I did watch the QB1 and while Rattler seemed like a douche, he did seem to be hyper competitive which is a quality you must have to be an elite QB. So it wouldn’t surprise me to see him be really good, but he hasn’t had a chance to really show much yet.
All QBs look better with NFL level receivers and offensive linemen. Take any QB this year from a team that won 10 games against good competition and put him on Ohio State, Clemson, LSU and Oklahoma and they would be in the Heisman picture (this would exclude Navy).

Phoenix High Schools have steroid water. N’Keal Harry looked like he was 25 his senior year of HS. Also, Terrell Suggs just looks like he eats steroids for breakfast.

I tend to agree but I have seen (mostly girls basketball) some really "bad ass players" who played at small schools fail at the next level. Not because of their ability but psychologically they could not adjust to not being head and shoulders above the other 9 players on the floor. In football it happens to high schoolers when they get to college and college players when they get to the pros. It generally does not happen in individual sports such as track, golf, swimming (sports with no defense).
