Warner had a short career compared to other QB greats, but he was legitimately the best or close to the best QB in his prime. I could never say that Eli was ever the best or close to it at any point in his career. Eli ranged from mediocre to good, maybe even very good, but he didn't stand out among his peers as a great.

True...it still kinda feels like a "sell" job for Warner to me and imo when we talk about HOFers, they should be almost immediate, yes. I didn't get that immediate yes with Warner, but when you probe a little deeper, you come around.

IMO...Eli is getting in because he played in the biggest market and he won twice on the biggest stage in the game.

4 yrs...It was a rough ride at the end, but nah...his legacy is still intact.

I don't feel comfortable putting him in this grouping, but many greats in sports hung on too long...Chamberlin, Ali, Kareem, Namath, Rose, Nolan Ryan.

As a fan you remember the good mostly.

Athlete's careers almost always end badly, or they wouldn't end!

Fair points...I honestly think it's already jacked up. Once they allow one fringe guy in like Namath, you open the door for others and that's what's happened.

A guy like Jessie Tuggle (ATL Falcon) who was the best at his position for a long stretch of his career, but never played in a SB, had 200 tackles for 3 consecutive seasons...(okay 193 one yr)...he's not going to get in because he didn't play in a major market, and played on a losing team most of his career....he deserves it far more than Ray Lewis, or Warner or T. Davis imo.

But that a different debate.
I totally agree on Tuggle. He should be in. He was top 3 at his position for several years.
I don't like the Namath argument. Just because they fucked up in the past isn't a good reason to make more mistakes.

I hear ya on Namath, but not an argument...it's more like the reality.

If they do as you suggest and not continue to allow fringe players in, you end up with valid arguments for players like Warner who in the minds of many was a fringe entry. He put up better numbers than Namath, was top of his position for a longer period, how can you keep him out?

As HOF entry goes...I like the LPGA's process the best....it's criteria based...you hit the criteria and you're in...until then you're not. No gray area. They do have a vet committee to address players that played prior to the criteria based system started.

Then we'll probably debate the criteria...lol It's always something...that's why I don't get too bent out of shape one way or the other...I'm just glad Donnie Shell is finally getting in. I know Troy will make it eventually if not this year, but pulling for Faneca.

I've been to the world golf HOF, but never to Cooperstown, Canton or Springfield....maybe one day, I'll make it to the others.

He never finished better than 7th or 8th in QBR (and I think the other QB rating) in any season. Every season he played in, there were at least a handful of better QBs playing. You have to judge players on how they compared to their peers. He just happened to play a long time in an era where you throw for a lot of yards.

He threw a lot, missed on a lot.

He didn't miss on the hall... He will wear a yellow coat no matter how bad it bothers you!

the problem with the HOF & a lot of fans for that matter. When it comes to the HOF it is supposed to be about your body of work in your career. Not what you did in a couple post season games.
He will eventually get in because he is a Manning with a a couple Superbowl MVPs. but he shouldn't. if it wasnt for a Danny Dimes sitting out a game against the lowly Dolphins they would have had to put a sub .500 QB in the HOF (in this day & age)
Under the evaluation that people want to use to put Eli in the HOF, means they would have to put Joe Flacco in the HOF. Who is also really known for (career wise) of a great Postseason run. There is no way I would put him in the HOF either. However he is a better post season QB than Eli. Also a better regular season Qb than Eli. (well at least could be argued LOL)
Better win/loss record & less INTs than games started

When dealing with the HOF it shouldnt be about literally a couple of games in a career, but the body of work.
I wouldnt put Eli or Flacco in the Hall. But for those arguing for Eli, should be also arguing for Flacco under the pretense you are using.
