I'm for resigning Clowney, but I draw the the line at any cost. He's pretty dang good and all, but at the same time he isn't a "sign no matter the cost" kind of player. However be a real blow if he isn't on the roster next year. Think a pass rushing DL is top of the list for the Seahawks, because they actual need Clowney plus another stud on the DL. You can see the difference when the Seahawks actual pressure a QB vs when they don't. Huge difference with the defense.:2cents:

If they pass, who would be the best option to replace him in FA. I'm thinking they get a DL opposite side in the draft.

In free agency? TBH haven't really looked. Doubt any one as good available.

I really don't want to spend 2 picks on DE since there's plenty of holes to fill nor do I want someone of lesser talent just because they want to save money. FO has good cap space so sign Clowney who's only 26 and draft 1 DE and that frees up another draft pick for need.

Imagine, clowney plays his ass off with an injury that is worse than minor and the team lets him go or tags and trades him. How would that look to other guys that might come here?

The downsides of letting him go far outweight the downside of keeping him. So sign him, if we have to we can tag and trade reed. I doubt it comes to that though since he has had a down year.

Dont love spending high picks on pass rusher as they seem to rarely pan out or it takes time. Collier is too early to call a bust but its definitely trending that way. Seems like this team has done better developing the interior guys while using FA for the outside guys (Avril, Bennett types)

From what I understand the team mentioned they wouldnt tag him at all once they traded for him. I mean that what just a verbal statement so it could still happen but it would look bad at this point if they did so I assume they wont

Frank clark panned out bigly.

It just depends on who is available when we pick, which will again be late 20s. One thing we havent done is trade up, maybe we do it this year.

A mid tier FA would also be fine. Hopefully Collier will turn it around next year.

I still think we should go after Kareem Hunt. I don't believe he will cost a lot and I think we should use our draft picks on the offensive line and the defense they both need a lot of help.

Wouldn't mind say a 2 year deal and drafting a kid.

We'll be done with Procise finally, and Carson/Hunt/Homer/Draftee will be great while Penny is PUP.

Focus once again on Oline, Dline, WR, and Secondary in the draft.
Agreed. I'd put WR fourth in that priority list.
Secondary
OL
DL
WR

We do need a good third down back but I dont think it is so critical that we give a spwndy multi-year deal to a high profile vet like Hunt.

Just curious. How much you think he ends up signing for? Like to see what you think is not a lot.

No way in hell would i pay hunt, or any rb really, 8 mil per. We will have 9+ picks, just draft one.

I'm with you on that, the draft is where you go for RBs. Fresh, healthy, hungry and cheap. As for Hunt nobody is going to pay him 8 million, that would be crazy.

I would have no problem paying him in the Dion Lewis, Giovanni Bernard, Duke Johnson, Mark Engram range of about 5 million over 2 years. that would put him at 26-27 and still be in line for a solid pay day.

My only problem with drafting RBs is this how many RBs have the seahawks drafted since Pete Carroll took over? like 9 and how many of them turned out to be great? none literally a 7th round draft pick in Chris Carson has been our best player. Now who has been the best RB since Pete took over obviously Marshawn lynch an established talented player who already had a few 1000 yard seasons in buffalo. I would rather spend 5-7 million on hunt then spend a high draft pick on a RB when we have offensive line issues and this defense needs an entire make over. It looks like Reed wont be back with the team and will be testing free agency.

Dion Lewis contract was close to 20 million dollars and he is going to make 5 million just for the following season

Ingram

Gio is tad under $5 million a year and Duke $4 - 5 million per year. Other then Ingram they aren't even starting RBs. As a whole I'd say those teams wasted their money.

Heck most of them showed promise, but injuries derailed their careers. Injuries can happen to any RB and often does. One more reason to go with inexpensive Rookies. Think the last free agent RB Seahawks signed was Eddie Lacy, that sure was a waste of money.

Yes but I do believe that Hunt is a better RB than Dion Lewis and Duke Johnson. I think that you have to spend money where you cant develop talent and the seahawks cannot develop running backs. Historically they like bringing in vets on 1-2 year deals on the defensive side which I will admit that is needed because that defense outside Wagner and Wright needs help. At the same time everyone seems to be on board with giving Clowney a trillion dollars to keep him so the burden is on him to take the defense to the next level.

RB is literally the easiest position to draft, and they will draft a RB but it might not be til round 6 or 7. I think round 3 should be our target, there are more than a few RBs that would fit this teams style and should be there for us.

The problem is, RB is also one of the most dependent positions. Without an OL even a great RB will struggle.
