Ok, so since you understand explain to me why he is not a HOF qb...

I'll be waiting..
I've already talked about it (either here or in the other thread).

He's never been a top 5 QB any year... His entire career, he was a top 10 QB only a few seasons. So, he was above average for a long time. Yay... Sounds like an all time great to me.

You're right, that was a nice undefeated season for Brady. Unparalleled. Oh wait.

Admit it. Eli fucked your mom and now you cry about it daily.

Eli is a garbage QB. Always has been.

four years too late

4 yrs...It was a rough ride at the end, but nah...his legacy is still intact.

I don't feel comfortable putting him in this grouping, but many greats in sports hung on too long...Chamberlin, Ali, Kareem, Namath, Rose, Nolan Ryan.

As a fan you remember the good mostly.

I kind of agree with you, but he shouldn't be

That's kind of a another topic, because we drag all the other "fringe" HOFers out.

Kurt Warner imo was a very good player...great story, great career...HOF career? imo no, but he's in.

I don't have as much of an issue with Kurt Warner as I do Eli. Kurt was a top 2-3 QB in the league for a few seasons.

True, he was. That's a very good career...not a HOF career imo.

For me...trying to justify Warner yet exclude Eli is a difficult sales job.

For me it isn't. For me, you have had to be a top 3 player at your position for some time in the league. I know that is not how the HOF does it, but I don't agree with them many times. Warner was the best in the league for 2 seasons. Top 5 another couple years. I had no issue putting Terrell Davis in. He was the best for a couple years.

Idk what your definition of top 5 any year is ... but how about number 7 of ALL TIME (forever ever) in passing yards and TDs...

2time 2time superbowl champion and mvp... only 5 people to ever walk the earth can make that claim.

Sounds like you got EDS...

I don't think anyone can question that Kurt Warner was a legitimately good QB. It's hard to make that argument for Eli.

Warner was an MVP 2 times. Eli never was.

Warner made first team all-pro twice. Eli never did.

Warner made the playoffs 5 times and went one-and-done only once. Eli made it 6 times and was one-and-done 4 of those times.

Warner earned the HOF. I can't say Eli has.

He never finished better than 7th or 8th in QBR (and I think the other QB rating) in any season. Every season he played in, there were at least a handful of better QBs playing. You have to judge players on how they compared to their peers. He just happened to play a long time in an era where you throw for a lot of yards.

He threw a lot, missed on a lot.

Fair points...I honestly think it's already jacked up. Once they allow one fringe guy in like Namath, you open the door for others and that's what's happened.

A guy like Jessie Tuggle (ATL Falcon) who was the best at his position for a long stretch of his career, but never played in a SB, had 200 tackles for 3 consecutive seasons...(okay 193 one yr)...he's not going to get in because he didn't play in a major market, and played on a losing team most of his career....he deserves it far more than Ray Lewis, or Warner or T. Davis imo.

But that a different debate.

I don't think he should be in the HOF. Not even close in my opinion. But I'm one who would like to see the criteria be a bit tougher.
Eli wasn't a top 5 player at his position in any year he played. I think you have to be around the top 3 at your position fo at least 1-2 years.

The football hall of fame has become a joke. I don't even know what the standard is, or if there even is one.

Warner had a short career compared to other QB greats, but he was legitimately the best or close to the best QB in his prime. I could never say that Eli was ever the best or close to it at any point in his career. Eli ranged from mediocre to good, maybe even very good, but he didn't stand out among his peers as a great.
