So many assholes are already in. I never understood why personality had anything to do with HoF votes.
There’s your answer right there. BBWA members are petty bitches.

they clearly wont make it until veterans committee... Kind of annoying that we all waste our time when they are clearly not going to get the votes... But now they really cant, too much backlash... especially because it opens the door for so many others...
Bonds and Clemens don’t open any doors for anyone. They are both so far ahead of everyone else that no one is even in the same library, let alone same book, let alone same page.

From where I'm sitting, 99.7% works.

I do find it funny that some are saying "he's #6 all time in hits" completely forgetting that #'s 1-5 didn't get 100% of the vote either.
Again, it's all pretty silly at this point.

First-ballot and 100% don't get you into special sections of the Hall. There were at least 10 eventual HOFers on every ballot up until 1986. It's going to start getting interesting now that La Russa is fully intent on getting his favorites into the Hall. Will the writers start using guys like Baines as the minimal standard, and we get serious pushes for guys like Kent, Vizquel, Hunter, and Abreu?

Otherwise, at this point, it should be pretty academic. There isn't a "backlog" to clear.

they do open doors... once you let the 2 best players in who did a bad, you can then allow others who did the same bad... But you cant let others who did the same in before them...

when A-Rod is up, do you think he has a chance any of the years he is on the list, if those 2 don't get in first???

La Russa, Piazza, Bagwell, Selig...

The seal has already been broken.

And IMHO, ARod is a no-brainer. Although I totally get it if he doesn’t get in. He OFFICIALLY got caught and broke rules that were actually in place. Something that Bonds and Clemens never did.

Ozzie Smith being first ballot and Andruw Jones barely hanging on the ballot is a sham.

Yeah, it's weird but I think them being so good kind of works against them because there are so many of those old school guys who are obsessed with those sacred records. Bagwell and Piazza left some doubt in people's minds by not having that 60+ hr season.

That has some to do with it, absolutely. But I think it is more about a bunch of hoity toity, hypocritical assholes who like to say “look at how aware and serious I am” after the fact, when during the fact they were selling newspapers and books based on these guys exploits.

i understand that schilling is a dick and everyone hates him... but the fact he hasn't made the HOF yet is a joke... if he was even slightly likable, he would have been a first balloter...
Selfishly I think it's funny that it's probably tearing him apart that he's not in, but he absolutely should be. That the BBWA thinks its a self-important morality police and includes guys who barely even cover baseball anymore is a joke

its amazing how much hate Jeter gets... Funny thing is he has become UNDERRATED because so many people think he is so over-rated...

I think his defense was overrated, but it's only one part of the game. And no doubt it's very important at a position like shortstop, but so is offense. I'd take offense over defense. And Jeter was one of the best offensive shortstops of all-time, plus a great baserunner (358 stolen bases with a 78.7% success rate).

saying he isn't a HOFer is just as much of a hot take as saying he's the best ever.

Buster Olney wrote a particularly scathing article/blog on BBWAA as HOF moral gatekeepers in 2016 titled "BBWAA writers should relinquish throne as HOF's moral gatekeepers" it's worth reading.

As he asserts, the writer of the moral clause himself had a moral issue that makes it a joke when you see Bonds, Clemens being kept out of HOF: "For starters, the person believed to have written the character clause, former commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis, worked to keep the sport segregated, and that in itself should have been enough to appraise the depth and significance of the character clause."

Ironically, the public poll reveals that over 70% of the public want to see these two in the HOF while the writers in their holier than thou ostrich mode don't want to see them in the Hall. I wish Bonds and Clemens could give a middle finger to BBWAA clowns who are hellbent on preventing them from getting into the Hall which in 2 years will happen when they are sent to purgatory.
