He's an example (and there are so many) how tough it is to gauge college QBs and what they will do in NFL.

Hell, even KC didn't know he would be this good...if they did, they don't hope he falls to 10.

shanahan/Lynch needed a QB and traded up.....but passed on Mahomes (and watson).

yeah, that's pretty much the bottom line...

and as the saying goes, hindsight's 20-20...

but for the halubit, here's the report

Name: Patrick Mahomes

School: Texas Tech

Position fit: Starting QB

Stats to know: Ranked second in the nation in big-time throws, but third in the nation in turnover-worthy plays

What he does best:

  • Smooth, whip release with power and touch.
  • Arm is special and may define the term “arm talent.”
  • Can make any throw with accuracy and power to and level/area of the field, from every type of platform and arm angle.
  • Incredibly instinctive, intuitive player with a good feel for passing game.
  • Athletic in the pocket with ability to make rushers miss, or shed with strength.
  • Anticipates well. Time from locating receiver to ball out of his hand is extremely quick.
  • Overall has good vision and ability to see multiple defenders in his reads.
  • Poise to make any throw no matter what the chaos is around him in the pocket.
  • Plays outside of the structure of the offense as well as anyone in the NFL does right now.
  • Gritty playmaker. Wants the ball in his hands and delivers when his team needs it most.
Biggest concerns:

  • Plays undisciplined too often.
  • Inconsistent footwork, loses his base but tends to make up for it with his arm.
  • Tendency to drift in the pocket in all directions when it’s not necessary.
  • Bad habit of breaking from clean pockets too early when the pass rush dictates him to stay in there.
  • Forces too many throws and tries for the hero play too often.
  • Steep learning curve coming from the Texas Tech spread/wide open system.
Bottom line: Mahomes is as interesting as a prospect as there is at quarterback that comes with high risk/high reward. His arm is as good as any quarterback in the NFL playing right now. The natural passing instincts as far as sliding and feeling pass-rushers in the pocket, to seeing in front of the throw and adjusting to the type of throw needed, is special. His lack of discipline in the pocket with footwork, bailing on clean pockets, and decision making is a big concern. Some of the bailing on pockets can be attributed to how much “rush three drop eight into coverage” he saw, which can lead to playing outside of structure to find passing lanes more often. Coming from a system with everything so spread out and defined passing lanes, there will be an adjustment period needed for the NFL game and seeing tighter throwing lanes. Mahomes is not likely a Day 1 starter in the NFL but is certainly worth a first-round selection as a potential big hit as a franchise quarterback.

I mean now. That's what we were discussing, how both players are doing on shitty teams.
Love is averaging a double double (or was last I looked), helps take some pressure on O for the young guys as well as opens space up for them.....and he is a focal point of opposing defenses.

Kuz only makes $1.9M. I don't see the Lakers making any trades of note, especially with KCP's no trade clause. Besides, Rose isn't enough of a 3 pt threat (31.3%) to make sense for this roster. Out of the Lakers' current roster, he's only ahead of 2 players (AD at 29.7% and Bradley at 28.8%).

I don't think 3 point shooting would stop the Lakers from making that trade if they could. Even with AD and Bradley shooting below their career averages, the Lakers are at 36% which is good enough for 11th in the league.

The Lakers need another playmaker who can take over that part of the game when Lebron is out and can also help when with some of that when on the floor with Lebron. Derrick Rose would provide that.

The bigger problem with Rose is that, while he has definitely been playing better, he's still not playing anywhere close to full seasons.

He hasn't played in more than 66 games since 2015-16 and only played in 51 games last year. That, along with him being 31 and as you mentioned, the contract are why they wouldn't/shouldn't make that trade.

Yeah you have a point.

lol

I may have been a bit over the top on that.

It wouldn't necessarily be stupid. Shortsighted might be a better description.

If Rose can stay healthy, he would provide a couple of things the Lakers need.

The Lakers don't really have a dependable playmaker to run the offense besides Lebron. They also don't have another guy who can consistently create his own shot besides Lebron and AD.

Rose would solve both of those problems.

They would be giving up a 24 year old with upside for a 31 year old who is closer to the end of his career than the beginning. It would mean that they are 100% all in on winning a title this year and/or next and then rebuilding around AD after that. Which is fine as long as they win a title or 2 in the next 2 years.

If they don't, then it's waste of assets.

That was my thinking when I made my comment. I'm not too sure that the Lakers can win a title in the next couple of years with Kuzma. Rose would give them that lift coming off the bench. It will be a gamble either way for the Lakers.

The race for home court in the first 2 rounds in the East/West is wild.

2-6 is separated by 2.5 games out East and 2-6 is separated by 3.5 games in the West

True.

Perhaps the worst thing about Kuzma missing the first couple of weeks (or whatever it was) of the season is that it took away time on the floor to get used to playing with Lebron and AD.

When he has to step in and be the #2 option, he's done really well and shown why the Lakers should keep him.

On the other hand, he has struggled as the #3 scorer which, if everyone is healthy, is what he will be playing for at least the next 2 years. Which would be reason to move him.

With more time on the floor earlier in the season, there would be a bigger sample size to show if he can develop into a more consistent #3 option.

and for you, since you got the answer you asked for.

What is Green contributing for his bad team?
Mentoring, leadership, minutes.

Also, what does it matter?

seriously...what is he contributing?

Does it matter when it comes to our team? Not really, since we each spent half (or nearly half) a decade with title level teams. But when comparing 2 players, yeah, thinking what they do on different kinds of teams matters.

I mean, if asked to compare 2 other players from bad teams I could offer an opinion.
