Seemed like the 49ers let up on them; at least I hope that's what happened because that 2nd half pass rush was pathetic. They never got near Rodgers once. I'm hoping that they simply didn't wear down because if that's the case, they are dead in the Super Bowl against Mahomes.
Remember Bill Walsh's belief that the key to winning in the NFL is a big pass rush in the 4th quarter.

There's a bit of fatigue for any defense late in games, not just the Niners. Most defenses get a bit tired (it's more tiring to play D, that's why everyone talks about time of possession) at the end of games. But it was also the fact that the Niners were way ahead and well in control and knew they could ease up a bit.

Obviously if they are in a close game with KC (and they probably will be) the defensive schemes and intensity will be different than late last night.

I wasn't so much worried about losing that game, I was worried about how pathetic the pass rush had become. I can see taking the air out of the ball on offense to kill some clock but I can think of no reason why you would let up on the pass rush yunless they wore out. I'm really concerned about that because if that happens against Mahomes in The Bowl, they are dead.

It's not 'letting up', it's being a bit tired, and also not needing to be great then, and also not dialing up blitzes and stunts. Just playing it straight.

It comes down to this: the Niners D is good enough to hold the Chiefs in the mid 20s in points (I think), under 30 for sure. Can the Niners score enough to beat that? Could go either way.

I hope so because that defense is fully capable of rattling Mahomes but they have to keep up the intensity for 60 minutes.
Regardless, it was a great game by the 49ers and I am thrilled.

Mahomes is special, the Niners put on great pressure but that guy can run away from or through pressure.

There's no way they hold KC to under 21...I'm hoping for 26-27 or so.

And that concerns me. They've lost a lot of depth on that D Line due to injury.

Here's a bright spot though. We were listening to a pod cast out of L.A and they were saying that Joey Bosa has said he will do anything possible to play with his brother year after next when he becomes a free agent. Imagine having those two as bookend edge rushers.

Everything concerns you.

And Bosa has very little control over where his brother plays, and for a while where he does.

I think Garoppolo will come through when they need him. I'm not worried about the offense at all and the defense is probably the only one who can slow down Mahomes. But KC has so many weapons I don't know how you go about stopping them other than massive pressure on Mahomes.

As the cliche goes, you can't stop them, you can only hope to contain them. If they hold them under 28 points that's a big win for the Niners D.

Yep. They are really on a roll and that scares me but something seems like this is the 49ers year. We'll see. Looks like the Chiefs are the early favorite in Vegas.

And if that's the case, the Niners have a shot at winning this thing.

Huh? Joey has total control over where he plays year after next and he said he will do everything he can to play with Nick. That means the 49ers, cause Nick can't leave yet.
