I figured it was! I'll admit pre 1980 football is not my strong-suit unless it pertains to muh Stillers. So i'm a tad biased but I still know enough history to involve myself in such discussions!

Hanratty was a career back up and Plunkett won 2 SB's with the RAIDERS.

That said, check out Wade Wilson's career numbers.

He was a back up QB for the Cowboys when they finally beat your Steelers ...

It's hard to rank QBs from today's game, then try to compare with QB greats of previous eras, then try to place them all in the same mix and come up with a proper ranking. All I can say is as a Bears fan who has watched Rodgers own my boys way too many times, as well as how he's played his entire career against all other teams, he is without question deserving of top 10 all time consideration. But if that's too subjective as to where he should be ranked, then at least we can all agree that his being named to the HOF will be an absolute no-brainer.
It's easier to put them in tiers than to rank them. Because you absolutely have to contextualize the entire list and not just merely look at numbers.

And even after that it may still be too hard, which is why I tend not to rank the GOAT candidates. So many other factors are involved, way too many for this feeble mind to place it all into context.

No doubt he is top 20. We always say stuff like this after a player loses a game like Rodgers did. But if he won everyone would be saying he is no doubt top 20 and one loss doesn’t change it.

I know plenty about Plunkett... Hanratty was a question mark.

Yes... Based on intangibles alone he's easily still one of the most talented QBs to ever play the game. But if we're basing this on accolades then he might slip to the bottom of the top 20. His stats are still great.

Tier 1
Brady
Montana
Manning
Brees
Unitas
Marino
Staubach
Favre
Young
Elway

Tier 2
Bradshaw
Rodgers
Starr
Aikman
Graham
Warner
Kelly
Tarkenton
Roethlisberger
Wilson
Only quibble, Brees and Rodgers should be in the same tier. Not sure which

I’ve never seen a player benefit more from poor officiating than AR. Is that his fault? Not sure but it works against his legacy.
You have no clue how any of the players from the 90s and before benefitted from poor officiating.

Just to be clear, we are blaming Rodgers for his defense being so inadequate they 49ers only had to pass the ball 8 times?

Truthfully, probably only 40-60% of a QBs passing numbers are a reflection of the QB himself.
Yup. It's a team game and people talk way too much about how many Super Bowls or playoff games a "QB has won". QB quality is not about wins, because it's by far the ultimate team sport. Teams win games not QBs. This is why you have the Dan Marino and Eli Manning situations.

QB stats are based on O line protection, receivers to throw to, running games for support, etc. It's really hard to isolate one player's contributions.

Playoff wins are based on all that plus defensive quality. It's a TEAM game.

No. We are simply asking if Rodgers is a top 20 QB or not.

But I swear, Rodgers apologists have more excuses than a truant student. It’s always someone else’s fault with this dude.

It's impossible. It's 100% subjective opinion which is virtually worthless.

The bottom line is we all firmly believe in our opinion but no one gives a shit about our opinion. :2cents:

With his pitiful performance in the NFC Championship Game yesterday, he fell to 10-8 all-time in the playoffs. That’s a lower playoff winning percentage than Donovan McNabb.

So, what say you?

If Eli Manning is top 10 of all time.... I'm sure Rodgers is top 10.

It's obviously Monday morning. I was looking at that list and thinking of Drew Brees and Purdue.

I'm picturing rmilia somewhere right now mumbling "suuuuuure, asshole." :D

This brings up my favorite NFL trivia question. No fair looking it up:

One school has produced 5 QBs who started in the Super Bowl. Name it, and the five. Bonus points: 3 other schools have produced 3 SB starting QBs...name those 9.

Hint: the school with 5 is not a perennial college powerhouse. The schools with 3 are (more or less, one isn't really anymore).

No.

At first thought, it's easy to think he is top 20 easy. Then you start putting names down and he drops pretty quick. In all fairness though, there are probably 30 quarterbacks that could all be lumped together and interchanged and all would have arguments that one is better than the other.

Yup, it's not a scientific thing, can't "prove" any of it. And it's one of the main things that makes sports fun, arguing about who was best.

The Packers defense deserves most of the blame by allowing 284 rushing yards. They couldn't stop the Niners the entire game.

This is fair but do the Niners deserve any credit? Their defense was crazy good in the first half (and it didn't matter when they loosened up in the second). Their O line dominating is what got those rushing yards.
