While we have A LOT of them to choose from, the one that stands out the most in my mind was against TCU in '99. The final score wasn't "that" bad, but Ladanian Tomlinson set the rushing record that day with over 400 yards. We ain't tackeled that sucker yet.

The 2013 #5 FSU vs #3 Clemson had so much pre-game hype

College Gameday
Some was calling this the biggest game ACC history.
They brought out the Genuineness Book of Record to see if Clemson could break the record for loudest stadium

Clemson proceeds to immediately fumble the ball and Winston tosses it up to Benjamin the very next play for a TD. Game over within 2 plays

If you added up Nebraska and the in state talent of every state that borders Nebraska — You wouldn’t even reach what South Carolina itself has. But keep telling yourself — but, but, but Clemson. You see the list of NFL players and their home states. It is a list of the teams who will be dominant in CFB. It takes a great coach and great recruiting. Texas can get back to being a national power. USC can get back to being a national power. Schools who have enormous talent base of HS recruits in state.

Teams like Nebraska, Notre Dame, Penn State, Michigan. Not happening in today’s CFB. For ND and Michigan — with their academic status — they have a shot if they can find an all-American QB. Michigan’s last 1st round NFL QB was Harbaugh. So I’m not holding my breath :lol:

Nebraska doesn’t have the location, nor the academics to be a consistent national power anymore.

Could it be, because these kids are leaving the state?

In this time of Nebraska being bad (worst decade in nearly 70 years), they still managed to send 28 players to the NFL. South Carolina with 3 times the in state talent only sent 30.... how could this be? Shouldn't they be sending 3 times the amount?

The fact is that if recruiting matter as much as you say it does, then Nebraska shouldn't be losing to teams like Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa... and for that matter, neither should Michigan. Both Nebraska and Michigan consistently recruit better than these schools.

I am not saying that recruiting does not matter, I have never said that. But it is definitely a 60-40 if not 70-30 swing for coaching being a more important factor to success. Sad part is that in the entire post of Damon Moore, he even says that coaching is more important lol.

California has a fair amount of schools too, but out of all of that talent, no one school in that god awful state can put it together? I mean if they are keeping all of that talent after all.

And I’ve said 100 times you need BOTH elite recruiting and elite coaching. It is why coaches bounce around until they get to a school where they can accomplish the elite recruiting part.

Here is the part where Nebraska fans don’t seem to grasp reality. You now play in the B1G West, not the Big 8 or Big 12. Your rivals are not Texas and Oklahoma — they are now Wisconsin and Iowa. The base for recruiting is more important than ever, because every team is recruiting nationally now and spending millions.
Since the turn of the century and the advent of the composite star rankings — Nebraska has signed a total of 6 top 50 recruits nationally and only 2 five star recruits. That’s in two decades.

Clemson has 8 top 50 recruits and 6 five star recruits IN THEIR LAST RECRUITING CLASS ALONE. :lol:

Ohio State was 3rd or 4th nationally this year and they matched Nebraska’s 20 year totals in this past recruiting class and it was one of their lower ranked classes in the last 5+ years (yes, they were 14th last year but they only signed 14 recruits. That’s the only reason why.)

The talent disparity is utterly ridiculous between a top 5 recruiting class and a top 25 recruiting class.

But keep thinking Nebraska is going to be the only school in CFB who doesn’t need elite recruiting

45-28 loss to UCLA. Ronnie Harmon fumbled 4 times and dropped a wide open TD pass (he only fumbled once the entire season).

Hawkeyes let Eric Ball rush for like 250 yds and 4 TDs.

Most disappointing Iowa game of my life to date.

I will give you another tidbit — South Carolina has about 200 miles of its border adjoined with Georgia. The talent rich state which has only one big D-1 program. Remember when they mentioned recruits like to go to school near home? This how Clemson was able to get DeShaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence.

Which border state is Nebraska going to reap the benefits?

And for the 100th time — you need elite coaching AND elite recruiting. If you think the same 5 or 6 schools are going to sign the overwhelming majority of elite recruits and Nebraska is going to become a national power regardless — you are out of your mind.

Could Nebraska compete for a championship some day? Absolutely. Will they ever be a national power again? No. Not unless we have a population shift and the vast majority of elite recruits move to the Midwest.

Just think about it — if a recruit has a choice to go anywhere — how can Nebraska sell them on going to school there, when they don’t have the academics of the other schools and instead of rivals like Texas and Oklahoma — their rivals are now Wisconsin and Iowa?

Venables was the DC for that game and Morris didn't leave Clemson until after the 2014 season
