9ers did at least have the #1 pass defense which in this match up is more relevant than overall defense in this case since Andy Reid hates running the ball more than he hates a salad for dinner.

As he should- running the ball is for fucking idiots and the Packers D in 2020.

Yes I agree. And considering the Chief's haven't been able to run, it should be even stronger.

I wouldn't sweat it. The top defenses always win superbowls. The 49ers got this.

I failed, but it’s still a dam good matchup, Top offense vs Top defense... If I could change the narrative on the post I would... Looking forward to seeing how Mahomes handles the 49rs pass rush...

The Patriots have the #1 defense. Not the niners.

Those numbers include some games midseason that the Niners D was pretty banged up. The numbers are what they are but fully healthy this Niner D is the best right now.

Still, they ain't shutting down Mahomes. They will try to hold them to 24-27 points.

Are you sure about that one team couldn't win a game and the other is going to the Super Bowl.
Nice technique you have for measuring defenses. Ok then. Looks like KC and SF are tied for the #1 defense. :rolleyes2:

i would like to see the 100 year line graph, multiplied by pie, taken by the square root of NFC winners with the exact number of wins and 4th quarter comebacks as the 49'ers divided by the divisional loss's vs winning times, times the AFC winners td passes on sunday 1pm games, to give me the correlation to who may be winning the game with 13:01 left in the second quarter. I think someone can do that for analysis, and make a thread abou tit

I'd say it's probably because the extra week benefits the defense more than it does the offense.

But offhand I think I saw a stat where the Chiefs are 3-0 vs top 5 pass defenses this season so they might be able to buck the trend.

The big problem the Chiefs have is they might be too pass happy which plays right into what the 9ers defense does best. And if they struggle in the passing game that's going to play into what the 9ers want to do on offense and run the ball.

Really the key match up is the 9ers running game vs the Chiefs defense. The Chiefs offense vs the 9ers defense is probably going to be a win some lose some kind of deal so I think the 9ers running defense and the extent the Chiefs are able to stop it is going to be key.

If the 9ers run at will like they've done the past two games it could be a case where they simply don't have enough time to score enough points to win. 9ers pass defense is one of the best at not giving up explosive pass plays so they Chiefs are going to have to depend more on methodical drives than hitting huge plays to move down the field. Not that they won't hit those but probably not to the extent that will win them the game.

I see an elite KC OFC vs a very good, but maybe not elite SF DEF....but SF also as a very good OFC which makes them more complete imo.

IMO the big key for SF's D...can they consistently pressure Mahomes with the down 4 and put 7 in coverage? If they can I like SF's chances a lot because they will be able to run the ball on KC. On the flipside, if KC gets up early and SF has to go to Jimmy G 30+ times...I like KC's chances a lot more.

The Niners have a much, much better offense than the Patriots at every single position including QB and including the coaching.

The Patriots can't really overcome the reality that their offense was a decent over 30 slot receiver, an aged Brady, and a bunch of replacement value dudes or practice squad tier types. The Patriots' defense was not at all the problem.

I don't disagree that the defense wasn't the problem but I'm not sure they were any better than the 49ers defense especially no we that the defense is healthy.

Which defense has been more impressive in the playoffs 49ers or Patriots?

At the end of the day the way team in the NFC made it to the Super Bowl and the best team in the AFC made it to the Super Bowl. One team has the better offense the other the better defense.

If I were a betting man, I would put money on the niners winning this game. Although, I could see the chiefs track speed torching the niners secondary.

i would guess the chiefs will put up right around 30 in this one. we'll see if the niners can score more.

The pendulum might be swinging back from all passing to more balance, with the success of the Titans and Niners run games in the playoffs...

I'm thinking the Niners D is good enough to keep them to 24-27 but we'll see.

Very possible as we see more teams like the Packers emerge and just not give a fuck and sell out more than we’ve ever seen teams do to stop the pass. Part of the issue is stopping the run is so ingrained culturally we haven’t really put nearly as much mental energy to stopping the pass.

Don’t think the Chiefs defensively are that far gone in terms to defending the run- philosophically and personnel wise in the 2nd half of the season.
