What does that mean "take your foot off the gas"? Does anyone think the Niners stopped trying in the second half? An all time great QB was slinging it from a big deficit and scored a couple TDs. It's not like the Niners said "meh let's not try this half"

It's not that they weren't trying it's just that they went for a "Let them kill the clock and don't give up anything big" defense.

They were simply more aggressive in the 1st half trying to shutdown the Packers offense compared to the 2nd half where they were content in letting the Packers have the small stuff as long as they didn't get beat big which unfortunately they let happen twice.

Because they could afford to. Doubt they'll have a big lead on KC to work with

Niners are the better all around team, I think, but Mahomes is special and can win it all by himself.

Everyone gets all hyped up about up-and-coming, young, star QBs until they face defenses like the 49ers. Then they're like, "Maybe we got ahead of ourselves."

I agree. I have this feeling KC puts up over 40

9ers defense is going to be rested and healthy so I just don't see them putting that many points on the board unless the 9ers turn it over like crazy.

Plus the 9ers are going to run the ball and they should have success doing it I just don't know how much success and that'll shorten the game.

And I think people are buying a little too much into the Chiefs last two games. The Texans have a pretty bad pass defense and the Titan's pass D is bad as well along with the fact they were on their 4th straight road game so they were out of gas.

What do the Chiefs have on offense that the Packers don't?

QB: Draw (slight advantage - Chiefs maybe)
OL: Advantage Packers by a big margin
Skill Positions: Advantage Chiefs

Seems about even to me. Chiefs' OL can't handle the Niners' D-line.

Niners roll. :D

Mahomes can roll out and run better than Rodgers. Mahomes is a damn good QB. It will be a very interesting game. I'm not too sure that the Chiefs can stop the Niners running game. As any game, turnovers will decide the game.

Counterpoint: Packers were also mediocre
I agree the Packers are mediocre, the Hawks were banged up and almost came back and beat them. IMO the Chiefs are a much better team than the Packers.

Hopefully the 49ers will make sure Dee Ford is in there for any critical 3rd and long snaps.

Would be nice to get those free plays

Mahomes will make a play in the end to win the game, he is the best payer while he is on the field, close game that Patty and the Chiefs pulls out..

If the Chiefs can contain the 49ers running game like they did Derrick Henry the Chiefs will win the game. No QB in the league can go toe-to-toe with Mahomes right now.

If the Niners can run the ball decently and their front seven can make some plays, the Niners will win.

I would expect a point total around 60 in this one

In a "QB driven league"(Colin Cowherd's words) the Chiefs have the advantage...

so IF it comes down to that yes, the Chiefs win...

Since the Chargers moved to LA my entire opinion on who to root for is what pisses off Spanos the most. Certainly having a division rival win a Super Bowl would cause him pain, so go Chiefs.

That said, I still think defense and a running game wins championships, so the 49ers should win.

Honestly, don't know who to root for.

On one hand you have Jimmy G and if he wins all you'll hear is, "Patriots should have kept him, then they'd be in this position." NO, they wouldn't

On the other hand you have Mahomes and his annoying a flock girlfriend who can't let Mahomes have any second of fame to himself!

All I know is that it will be an entertaining Super Bowl

Yeah, the Packers played a banged up Hawks team and when they played the Chiefs earlier in the season Mahomes and other key players weren't playing for the Chiefs. I don't think the Packers were terrible but like the Titans they relied on their one key weapon on offense and you just can't do that at a Super Bowl level.

My early read on the Super Bowl is that the Chiefs can erase leads quickly and that no one has really made the Niners look bad all year. The Niners losses look like they basically amount to 'Lamar Jackson made plays', 'Russell Wilson made plays' and 'Julio Jones made plays' and I'm sure the Niners defense wasn't 100% for some or all of these games.

I think a normal coach would look at the Niners and try to mix in about 50-60% run plays. Andy Reid isn't going to do that. My guess is that he is going to try and attack them the same way they attack the Broncos when they're good. Not sure who the Chiefs will put on Sherman. Hardman would be my guess because he actually has some physicality to his track speed. Sherman could lock him up for 95% of the game but if Hardman beats him then he'd be gone. Then again, the Chiefs might play more conventional and have Watkins get the matchup. No idea.

The big matchup, though, is going to be the Niners offense against the Chiefs defense. I think both units have improved over the season and I think they might both be a little underrated in terms of what they can do. Teams can absolutely run on the Chiefs but its generally on the outside and generally if the Chiefs respect the opposing QB. Jimmy G doesn't have to outduel Mahomes but he does have to make plays.

I wouldn't be shocked if the betting comes in pretty heavy on the Niners. History is on their side with their defense. Mahomes can make plays, though.
