I disagree with that.

There are definitely some scummy coaches out there who do that, but the majority care about their players’ safety. At least all the coaches I know well do.

I respect your right to disagree but I can tell you I have seen kids put back in the game that were questionable at best Not always, not all coaches. The higher the level of play, the more pressure to play a kid. It isn't always coaches. Kids sometimes stay mum on an injury. I know this because I have seen it. I have seen HS and college kids take pain pills to help them play. So it isn't always the coaches and moreover the kids are often more to blame.

I think the entire concussion issue has gotten better. I am not saying it is great. Remember on the HS or DII level you don't have the quality of trainers as you do in the NFL or even top DI teams. One thing I like is that referees can step in when a kid looks like he might have a concussion.

To be more clear, if a kid says he is hurt an can't play there are few coaches anywhere that will insist he go back in the game. Liability is to high for them to do that. If a kid doesn't come clean it is possible the coach may put a kid back in the game.

Oh, I know it happens.

But at least at the high school level the most common scenario is like you said, kid takes a shot and stays quiet about it because he wants to stay in so he says he is okay. Coach sees the hit, but doesn’t dig too deep because he wants to win, so he lets the kid play.

And I do think that is poor coaching.

I took your original quote to imply that coaches were encouraging injured players to play through it like they probably would have 20 years ago. I do think times have changed a lot on that front.

So you’re back to talking about concussions then?

and who are you in the other conversation with, sporty?

Nobody else was talking about taking pills for any other ailment.

All posts previous and since were about concussions.
