Does Will Grier benefit from Joe Brady heading to Carolina? Brady did wonders for Joe Burrow

Grier is more talented IMO but man he looked rough in limited action
grier had real questions coming out. he did improve his last year in college, before that he wasnt even an nfl thought

He looked good in limited games at Florida before he was an idiot and took a banned supplement. Then went to WVU and put up silly numbers

Also college though. His tape at Florida and his first year at wvu is actually what had most saying he was NOT and nfl an. It was his last year at wvu that he took a step forward to give himself a "shot". Lots of prolific college passers aren't nfl quarterbacks. Wvu has a great system in place. Heck look at all those offensive pieces, none of them are doing a thing in the NFL.I dunno just my opinion. I read a lot of draft prospects. Not always right, but I never expected him to be anything more than a pretty crappy back up.

I know college success doesn’t always equal success at the next level. He was still raw at Florida but showed flashes. Arm talent and decision making mostly

I had high hopes for Grier. I truly thought he was the next diamond in the rough. But he was just plain horrid. I dont think i have seen worse QB play ever, and that's coming from a Raider fan who has lived through Marinovich and Russell, and who has lived in Colorado the past 18 years and seen the post Manning era. Maybe theres still a glimmer of hope, 2 games is hardly enough to just give up on the dude, but man, he was THAT bad.

And Allen, I dunno. I think his overall ceiling is a career journeyman backup. He's not terrible, bit I sure didn't see anything that would inspire much hope of significant room to grow there.

I'm guessing the Panthers draft a QB with one of thier top 2 picks, with a battle royals for the job in camp, with or without Can..cuz he sure ain't the answer any longer either.

Surprisingly. Most of the reports I read on him. His arm was in question.

The same people probably talked about Deshaun Watson’s velocity as a reason why he won’t have success
perhaps, but just to refresh myself i relooked up some reports. it wasnt just scattered info.

NFL Draft & Combine Profile - Will Grier | NFL.com
Weaknesses
  • Average arm talent
2019 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Will Grier
Weaknesses:
  • Lacks arm strength
  • Throws die on him going downfield
Loses all zip on the ball when his feet aren't set

Will Grier NFL Draft 2019: Scouting Report for Carolina Panthers' Pick
WEAKNESSES

—Tries to fit the ball in tight windows but lacks the arm talent.

https://www.si.com/nfl/2019/04/23/film-room-scouting-report-will-grier-west-virginia
Weaknesses: My biggest concern with Grier is his arm strength.

The Draft Network

Velocity/Arm Strength - When his base is right, can drive the ball to targets short-to-intermediate. Doesn’t have the velocity or arm strength to test tight windows deep down the field.

Arm Strength –Has struggled to drive the ball down the field, particularly once he's forced off of his throwing platform. Opportunities to stand in tall or release a throw from a set base can generate ample power, zip and velocity.

Arm Strength - Overall ability to drive the football with plus velocity is modest but he gets enough on it but certainly not a strength.

Not trying to be a dick, i love the draft, and scouting etc.......so i have a mountain of info to reference, and various sites i use.......

Charlie Weis LOVED Grier last offseason, even touted that the Patriots might take the gamble as a potential Brady replacement in the future.

Talked him up a ton on Sirius leading up to and after the draft, and even he said the only knock against was the arm strength.....but he could literally just be spewing back the stuff he read vs what he actually saw in Grier.

Either way, I'm with @TREFF, I don't think the next starting QB for the Panthers is currently on their roster.

Yea, Weis was one of the voices that helped get me on board with Grier.

Feels so wrong to just toss him aside, but, like I said, he really looked THAT bad. Shame

Geesh, they're already at seven. Rumblings that Cincy is still somewhat debating Herbert over Burrows, Miami surely to take Tua (assuming Burrows is #1), they'd have thier pick after that. I mean unless you gotta have Burrows, which means youre trading for #1, why ??

I guess.

IMHO, I think the only one worth going all in for would be Burrows. But then again, I'm the guy who thought Grier would be the steal of the draft last year, so f me.

See burrows has question marks too. He didn't hack it at Ohio state. He wasn't even on the radar last year. Then goes to all word status in one year. He's also 23. He's a one year wonder. He could be the man. He could of peaked. He's old for a rookie. He's not a guy that a year was even in the top three round discussions

Couldn't hack it might be a bit harsh. He may have just been buried under a coaches fav. Im not intimately aware of the Ohio State situation, but we're going through similar stuff at Nebraska right now. Ironically, Burrow attempted to transfer to Nebraska, but was rejected becuase Scott Frost has what he thinks is God's gift to collegiate QB'ing in Adrian Martinez. But Luke McAffrey is in town, and is utterly outplayed Martinez whenever given the chance. If Frost doesn't open up the position for a true competition this upcoming season, McAffrey is likely to transfer. I'd hate for people to assume he couldn't hack it here so he transfered, when the reality was he isnt being given the opportunity to prove himself so he left.

And guys who can't hack it don't transfer from Ohio State to LSU and get handed a starting gig. Those who can't hack it, get the starting gif at the Memphis's of the world.
