No excuse

He was a piece of shit.
Thought he was above everyone

No excuse for taking a life.

He was a fucking asshole

It is not an excuse but reality is people change when they start hanging around with a certain crowd and this series showed that's what happened with him.

Finally got around to watching the Aaron Hernandez Netflix series. Such a sad story and pointless murder. The turning point in his life seems to be when his father suddenly died and he started hanging with his cousin more which came with hanging with a different crowd aka criminals. Also playing for the Patriots was such a bad thing for him because New England was so close to his hometown of Connecticut. He needed to play elsewhere far away from CT. Wish the Patriots traded him when he asked.

Haven't seen it. No real interest but I was halfway listening to Lebatard Show this week at work and I believe they mentioned he was bi, tried to keep it hidden and was really ashamed about it? Is that true? I'm not sure I heard the segment correctly because I had never heard that about him

There was some bi QB who played on the same HS team with Hernandez and claims they had a relationship

Agree that his life changed when his father died.

I think the CTE and his homosexual past played a huge role too. He was emotionally unstable and actively trying to prove his manhood at every opportunity.

Really sad.

Yep, people are going to change to fit in. It's human nature.

Years ago, I ran a diversion program for first time juvenile offenders. I had a guy who worked for me, who was a reformed gang member (did he ever have some crazy stories). He used to always tell the kids, "you are who you hang out with, even if you're really not."

No doubt. Haven't seen anyone claim otherwise. No one is excusing his behavior. Just looking at the circumstances that may have led to it.

Everyone has circumstances and they dont kill people.

My problem with the documentary is they almost make excuses for him and even at times try to make him likeable.

Anyhow. Fucked up guy. Story and a waste of talent.

Guy had the world in his hand

That's what makes it both interesting and sad, imo.

He had a lot of God given talent, was well paid to play a game, he had money and fame (things all of us would love to have) and his life still ended up where it did.

Doesn't make him a good person or excuse what he did. It just makes it interesting to discuss/read about.

Personally, I grew up dreaming of playing in the NFL. So, when I see a guy make it and then throw it all away...I'm always at least a little curious as to why.

A good documentary should strive for balance. And it's always tough to achieve a balanced perspective between inputs and outcomes on a guy like Aaron Hernandez.

I haven't seen the documentary in question so I can't comment specifically on that case. But I will say that a lot of criticism on documentaries specifically or any similar endeavor generally seems rooted in a preconceived desire for lack of balance. Some folks might want to see a criminal demonized no matter what, and others may want the focus to be on social justice issues that go into the creation of criminality in society.

It's tough. But overall I agree with @trojanfan12 that I think the whole picture matters and I'd be interested in seeing all sides of these complex issues.

Love can put up numbers on bad teams. Good for him.

Draymond put up numbers on great Warrior teams in ‘15 and ‘16, just not in the scoring column.

Draymond isn’t a great player. But neither is Kevin Love.
Kevin Love was a great player and is still a very good player. He can put up numbers when other teams are trying to stop him, and remains an elite rebounder

Green is a good player and cannot even score when the other team wants him to score. He remains a decent rebounder, passer and defender. Of course, when he loses 2 other solid defenders his D is lessened.

So is Kevin Love.
If you consider an elite rebounder and double double guy a role player, I guess. Guy who is still the focal point of the opposing defense on a bad team and will be someone the D worries about on a good team.

Go ahead and die on the Green is better than Love hill. Itś what you do.

Kevin Love was a great player

I don't consider him a great player. I'd say he's more "great player adjacent".

It's not really a knock on him, I also consider guys like Harden and Rodman to be great player adjacent.

Imo, if you only play/concentrate on one side of the game, you're not a true great player.

Consistent NBA contenders in the 2010s. Not including the Mavs and Raptors (they won it once and that's about it). Key word being consistent so I haven't included the Sixers or Blazers either

East: Heat, Cavs, maybe the Celtics

West: Warriors, Spurs, Rockets, Thunder
Why do you include the Thunder in there who never won it, but not the Raptors, who did? Raptors also made it to the ECF multiple times, too, if memory serves.

I can see that argument, just don´t agree. Elite? Agree.....probably need to play both sides.

Go ahead and die on the Green is better than Love hill. Itś what you do.

I didn’t say Love is a role player. I said he is flawed. You ignore the flaws.

And I don’t think Green is better today. I said that too.

But he was more impactful to the Warriors than Love was to Cleveland. You are the one dying on the Kevin Love hill. You somehow bring every conversation back to him.
