And that has served Dantonio well. He has been so consistently good because his team always seems to be led by upper-classmen. That said, his NCAA title is 20 years old, and it isn't like MSU basketball is some huge moneymaker. If those were the stipulations, I'd trade in Izzo and go after someone else if it meant giving the football program a much-needed shot in the arm.
If I thought Izzo had 20 years left in the tank, I would say you can’t make a move. I don’t think Izzo sees his next recruiting class graduate so what Izzo does should not be part of the equation.

Wisconsin's success is remarkable. From 2016-2019, 4 whole recruiting classes, they had 9 players that were 4/5*, with all the others being 3* or worse, and all they've done over the last 4 years is win 42 games, won their division 3 times, and gone 3-1 in bowl games with two top 15 wins and a loss by the tiniest of margins in the Rose Bowl this year. That is ridiculously impressive.

I'm interested to see them move on to that hotshot QB they got in last year's class, Mertz. He was the 65th rated prospect in the nation, which has to be the highest rated QB they've ever had. Also, Jalen Berger is going to be another monster RB there. I hate it, but it's going to happen.

Watch out for the West. It's rising!

It is a one year deal. He typically gets these retention bonuses once every 4 years. It definitely looks bad and I’m at the point I hope Dantonio retires but I don’t feel he should be fired.
Hazaa! How does it feel paying a coach way more than they’re worth? Welcome to the club! We meet Sundays and Jolly Pumpkin. :D

I was just about to mention to Sam don’t he dare think MSU can poach Pitino. He is at a destination school!

Only way Pitino leaves UMn is if he gets fired, imo. His only chance of big time success is to make UMn a success.

Maybe after next year when he goes 6-7?

I wanted him to replace Mack Brown several years ago.

They could've fired him before January 15th and used that bonus money to pay a new, better coach. Womp.

D'antonio gets the leftover recruits (from Michigan, ohio state and Notre Dame. He has done some amazing thing with these athletes. A better coach may not be available. Y'all can criticize Harbaugh all you want (probably deserves it), but D'antonio has been top notch.

Key phrasing right there. It's clearly not the early 2010s anymore. Outside of a decent 2017, things have been rough in recent years, and it doesn't seem like it's going to get better in 2020. I think most MSU fans would say they would welcome a change.
