when the Patriots were caught videotaping practices and walk-throughs, no one had any problems condemning that behavior as unethical

If this buzzer thing is true, this is next level shit. Stealing signs is one thing but putty a buzzer vibrator underneath your jersey is next level shit. Players with vibrators should be banned one year minimum. If true also, that is really pitiful. Always liked Altuve but how can you live with yourself going to these lengths to win...disgusting

I don't know if that is true or not but that might be the kind of technology that ends up solving the sign stealing problem. Come up with a way like that for the catcher and pitcher to communicate without using hand signals.

Yeah this is my take as well. When the story first broke I was thinking the same, they've been stealing signs for as long as the game has been played, is the video part really enough to go from "no big deal" to "it's the end of the world"?

But yeah especially after teams were specifically warned about his by the commish this is another level of cheating. And I fully expect my team to be implicated next. But if we think it was only those 2 teams, well I suggest we think again. IMO when the dust settles we will find it was done in a lot of places to one degree or another.

How about suspending every hitter for two years?? Suspend their pay also.

You want them to prevent sign stealing? Put a 20-second clock on the pitcher. When the pitcher gets the ball back from the catcher after a pitch, the time starts. Once the batter gets into the batter's box, he can't step out to adjust his gloves, tug at his jock or blow snot from his nose. The speed of that would totally stop sign-stealing except if there's a guy on second base. Apparently baseball pitchers and catchers aren't smart enough to flash multiple signs and agree before each inning which one is the real sign. "Hey Joe, I'll flash seven signs before each pitch, the real one is number four this inning. If Little League can play six innings in an hour and fifteen minutes, why does it take adults three and a half hours to play nine?

TV commercials only after a complete inning and not every half inning. Teams have thirty seconds to get on and off the field.

Baseball has bigger problems than stealing the catcher's signs.

This is a great suggestion, one we've been screaming for for years. Now they have a good reason to do it.

I kind of disagree with that though. I think Anti Pat fans were very vocal about it. Both spygate and this Astros thing I put on the Rams and the opposing catchers. There is nothing in the rule book in either sport that says you cannot change things up.

I don't see most saying this is okay. I just think this is next level shit. Stealing signs is one thing but making a device to do it and make it that much more productive in the advantages it brings is crazy...considering everyone in the organization probably knew about it (who really knows) is even more crazy and pitiful. Very pathetic you have to go to those lengths to win...steals signs has happened throughout history but this is bringing it to a whole different level imo.

I think the main reason for this is that sign-stealing is a time-honored tradition.

If this was an actual concern by teams they would have long ago approved a mechanism for pitchers and catchers to communicate pitches with each other covertly.

But the notion that it is a big deal is laughable. There is a reason why catchers mix signals when there are runners on base.

This is the biggest joke of a scandal that we've had in some time.

The Black Sox nearly destroyed the entire sport of baseball. And prior to the Black Sox scandal, players taking dives was common place.

The only reason why this was even illegal is because they used electronic devices. Sign stealing isn't even against the rules.
