They're having a prime time special competition, starting today.

There will be two games played in a day. Whoever wins the combined games each night gets 1 point.

The special game will go until someone wins 3 points.

8 PM PST/EST, 7 PM CST.

I'm rooting for Jennings, just because of how many days in a row he won in 2004.

How do they have such long streaks, and still do their normal jobs? Is taping only done on weekends? Can they tape 5 shows in a single day, or single weekend?

It’s probably a combination of those, but also maybe having good flexibility at work and the knowledge that if you do win enough to go on more days, you are making enough money to compensate.

Right, but let's take Jennings as an example. He's a software engineer. He won for 74 games in a row, losing in the 75th.

It took 182 calendar days to broadcast.

How can he keep putting off features to work, week after week, for months? Or even 3 weeks?

His employer isn't going to care that he's on a game show.

Same for any other profession. Maybe they can cover for someone for a few days, or weeks. But months?

Unless taping is only done on weekends.

Also, for full time employees, they probably have to take paid time off. How can they have that many days available, if they have to tape on weekdays too?

Under the old rules, prior to 2003, there was a cap of 5 days. Someone couldn't win for more than 5 days. So that, I can understand. Someone could have flexibility for that.

But after 2003, with an unbounded cap?

Ok, they record 5 episodes a day, on Tuesday and Wednesday, and every other week.

That makes sense.

So someone would only have to take 2 days off, every other week, and only if they have more than a 10 episode win streak.

No, I’d be a very generous and flexible employer. I would just have them sign a contract that anything he wins he would have to give to me. Then, he can have all the game days off he wants. ;)

First commercial break.

They got every single question right in the first round.

I think Ken got the most questions right, but James got more of the higher dollar ones.

I was surprised James missed "Feliz cumpleanos". I guess he never took Spanish, or had any Spanish speaking friend?

For the triple rhyme time, do they have to get the words in a certain order?

When the contestants are giving the questions, I wish they would give the full names of people more often, instead of just the last names.

I don’t know him well. I’ve only seen him in headlines. I have heard that he has a lisp some people are annoyed with. He looks perfect for the part and he would be knowledgeable, but also, I don’t think he’s ever been like a host so who knows? But you would know better because you’ve watched.

On another forum, people thought Brad would be a better choice.

I don't hear anything bothersome about any of the candidates.

Either of them would be fine, as they all have interesting personalities.
