Reading between the lines of a portion of an article by Paul Domowich, he states that Duce made a call to Hines Ward about the open WR coaching position. So is Duce going to be the guy or is it just that he knows Hines from their time in Pittsburgh????

I mean....Duce totally gets an interview and to make his case. That’s going to be a given. I just don’t think he gets it.

I wouldn't be upset if Duce was named the guy, but I would like to see some outside blood brought in the spin some fresh ideas... maybe make Duce the OC and still hire Caldwell in an advisory/consulting role.

Sign me up for Hines Ward. He may not have much coaching experience but I always thought he would make a solid coach if he ever got into it from his playing days - teach JJAW to be a man and play NFL WR... at worst our receivers would be the best blocking unit in the league

I've heard the Press Taylor could be in the running. I don't think he is ready, but Doug will make the decision with Lurie's blessing certainly.

Now this would be a solution that has Duce being the OC that I can get behind. I have nothing against Duce at all....but feel we need to get new thoughts and viewpoints in. If a vet like Caldwell can bring that and help Duce along I would be totally good with that.

I’m leery of Hines due to lack of experience coaching. But that’s all I’m leery of. It would be a gamble.

Im not good with this. Nothing against Taylor. I just think he’s certainly not ready. And I’m hopeful Lurie isn’t just going to rubber stamp anything.

He brought in Doug and told him who his staff was. We won a SB. He let Doug pick the last two years and it has not been pretty. Just hoping Lurie stays engaged on driving this.

Would it be fair to say that Carson Walsh had coaching experience, but lacked actual NFL experience as a WR?

I've got no problem with going the other way and bringing in a highly successful former NFL WR and finding out if they can coach. Give me the guy that has actually done it for a position specific coach. Yes, there's no guarantee that highly successful players can translate their success to the players they teach/coach, but I believe it's worth a chance to find out.

Give me Hines Ward and Jim Caldwell and call it a day.

For me Hines could be just as effective as Walch. We just don’t know. That’s all I’m saying. But I’m also not going to die on a hill over a position coach hire. Give Hines the chance. I just felt like so many one year experiments at this position maybe we could just get someone who has done the job adequately before.

Walch was in over his head. At least Hines had high level playing experience, and I know that does not mean you will be a great coach because of it but he was someone that always made the most of his ability... those are the guys that make good coaches eventually. Route running and physicality were his calling cards, something our group could definitely use. Going back to his playing days, at the time I thought back then he would make a great coach if he ever decided to get into it because he was such a smart player. Give him a shot!

Also, James Urban QB coach of the Ravens is the new name that has come up as a potential OC for the Eagles.

I'm in on James Urban ... learned under Big Red, went to Cincy and had success as the WR coach (Cincy as a "whole" may have sucked, but WR's have produced plenty while he was there) ... then he helped coach up Lamar Jackson to a likely MVP award. Pederson would still be the final say on Offense, but Urban seems like a guy who could really step in and help Doug out. I would see this as a win if he comes aboard.

I was thinking in the same way last night. I have seen good things from him. I think he showed great flexibility as a coach in helping Baltimore do what they did with the offense this year. The guy feels like he could be a good contributor in assisting with game planning and is open to fresh ideas.

This is a smart interview to seek.

I’m in on Urban as well and for the same reasons. Let’s open up the offense.

Report: Eagles interviewing Graham Harrell for offensive coordinator job

For those who liked Joe Brady of LSU, Harrell is a similar prospect... he could be an interesting option. Kliff Kingsbury wasn't as shitty as I thought he would be last year, this guy would bring some similar concepts to the offense which might be what Dougie is looking for.

Also Phillip Daniels, DL coach is not being brought back. Brentson Buckner formerly of the Raiders has been one of the best in the business for a while but was let go because Gruden wanted his boy Marinelli in there instead. Buckner should get a serious look from us

I actually wouldn't mind Harell. If you like an offense similar to the Big12 or an air raid offense of a Mike Leach offense, this is a guy the Eagles may want. My personal opinion of hiring a guy like this is that he's young and can open new offensive ideas. As far as helping the development of Wentz, I'm not sure he is on a same level as say Caldwell.

Here's the thing ... Doug runs the offense; he's looking for more of a "play call assistant" than a full blown OC who he would simply hand the Offense over to. Whomever we hire would have the OC title and make the OC pay, but he would be working in conjunction with Doug similarly to how it works in KC with Reid. Harrell would bring fresh new innovative ideas from the college game to mesh with Doug's existing ideas. The spread out air raid type system is what the NFL game is eventually heading to in order to take advantage of all the recent rule changes. Harrell's system has been very productive in racking up points consistently ... this would be a welcomed change as opposed to Mike Groh who was by most accounts limited in the "imagination" category.

This move would likely also mean an upgrade at the WR position. A free agent like Robby Anderson would be an even more likely priority and Rd 1 WR becomes even more likely as well. You don't bring in an air raid type guy and give him plodders.

Oh, you mean someone like Frank Reich! :D
BTW, I saw Reich QB in HS - Cedar Crest in Lebanon.
So, yes, I think that after they interview with Harrell, if their personalities mesh, this could be real good for several/many years. IMO.
